Haha.. Sorry, I guess I'm too dense. I get the sense he's one of those people who's just a good human being that doesn't advertise how good of a human being he is.

I'd better work harder at keeping up with the off-topic noise. Here we go!

Your avatar was driving me wild... because it looked to me like this woman had breasts on her back. That is, I saw her as looking to her right and holding out her left hand in a rather weird position. I had to google-image search it and check out a larger version, and now I can see the shaded portion of her left arm, my previous illusion has vanished. And now I can go wild just because she's pretty.

Philosophically, it could leave me musing about how different illusions cannot co-exist, or how one cannot see both the illusion and the reality at the same time.

Where were we? Oh yeah... GUTB thinks your avatar is a man's backside.

(Sorry GUTB. Nothing personal. I just cannot resist a major nonsensefest. Especially if it turns surreal)

The artist, Bruce Conner, did this video for Eno and David Byrne. Very surreal.

What's wrong with having a mid-fi system? What constitutes Hi-Fi?

Back in the 90s, this was considered Hi-Fi in my country. DSD/PCM/MQA Wut?:

A few years back, a few of my fellow beer snobs and I conducted a malt liquor tasting, complete with fancy goblets and everything. I don't remember everything that we tried, just the best and the worst. The best was Schlitz. It can actually hang with some legitimately decent beers. Of course, this was not a DBT, so my subjective opinions are worthless and I'm a very bad person for sharing them.

For the curious, the worst was Stack. Again, I'm being subjective, but I subjectively poured that shit down the drain. I'm confused by this. Objectively the measurements were similar and both were transparent malt liquors, so I shouldn't have been able to tell the difference between them. Then again, the Schlitz was slightly more expensive, so it should have been better, right?

You know how some wine snobs have ("studies show" ;) ) can't even tell white from red blindfold? I guess I read that a long time back and had a good laugh over all the win bullshit. But there's a next level, because, it seems, that real sommeliers don't get their certificates unless they really can identify wines unsighted. I guess the last thing that one of those guys wants to know is how much it cost.

(BTW... no idea if I can; I haven't drunk any for over ten years.)

I don't drink so I'm not the best judge of these things but I also read the articles about not being able to tell in double blind. But I watched the documentary Somm and was genuinely impressed at how much they have to do. I'm sure there's plenty of nonsense but there is genuine knowledge and discernment.

That's brilliant! You have cool friends!
As far as that beverage goes, a long long time ago, during yet another identity crisis at the time, I used to favor this, especially at .99 cent introductory price...

    Okay, well.

The poll is pretty illuminating -- obviously I have a hi-fi system, that's not really debatable. What the poll shows is the ratio between those that live in reality, and those that prefer to live in a forum reality where you speak in memes and reaction images.

I've noticed some of you simply aren't audiophiles. If you use terms like audiophool what are you even doing here? Isn't this a forum for audiophiles?

In regards to the butt avatar. Posting a butt as your avatar isn't a normal thing to do; someone with that kind of problem could very well post an image of some young guy's backside and like the idea that other people are looking at believing it is a female butt. I don't think anyone actually gets turned on looking at it. It's strange, is all.

I bought several more Channel Classics albums. For those of you who aren't aware, Channel Classics records direct to DSD by mixing using a custom analogue board. The clarity and reality-factor of their recordings are special. You won't be able to appreciate it though using hardware that doesn't support native DSD, and supports the dynamic range DSD needs. In fact, to get the most from it you'll probably need a hi-fi setup.

The Redditors and non-audiophiles in the thread might not like to hear it, but it's a fact that there is a difference between lo-, mid- and hi-fi headphones. The same applies to speakers, although with speakers it's more public and easier to discern. What they especially don't like to hear is that the difference isn't small. What they spend all of their time trying deny is that the entire playback chain matters. The difference between DACs can be huge. Amps some different, and, yes, better or worse, from one another. Power cables often can make a huge difference. Interconnects, even, can make a difference. Many other things, even things you don't personnel understand, can make a difference.

Obviously the Vorlons helped the ancients build the world wonders, that's not really debatable

    ????

I have sampled every component in your system and I find them all wanting. I'd say you're the one living outside of reality. That's not really debatable.

Strawman constructed again by you. We are often the ones accused by these same groups of being totally nutty with all the gear and phenomena that we talk about. It seems we can't win!

We ARE audiophiles on this forum and have no problem owning the term. You're the one showing up with a mediocre system and proclaiming it to be hi-fi. How different are you really from a guy who comes onto this forum with an O2 + HD598 and claims that it's just as hi-fi as our 5-figure systems? You're starting to sound like the "good enough" sort of objectivist to us.

oh yeah, and that's not really debatable.

I have the right to call myself an audiophool. How dare you question my existence here.

Cables, DACs, Amps, DSD, can make a difference. It can be huge depending on your reference point.

So why do you have such a shitty setup?

If you really want to achieve higher audiophile levels, start by taking a good look at the horrid fail your system represents, and then go up from there. Really, your system is shameful for a person that fashion himself as an audiophile.
