If there are good mechanics in that turntable I think it looks good. We'll see if it's intended to be more of an entry level TT or a higher end, and if so, can it justify its higher end claims.

My guess is that it will be $3200. You gotta pay for the aesthetics.

If it has the VPI motor and platter, the mechanics are good! But what can hurt this table is if the plinth design is not up to snuff.
I am suspecting it might NOT be....I mean, the looks that this turntable has, if it ALSO had the build quality of the Classic series, it should be priced at $6k plus.

Something is off....true judgement reserved till I actually EVER hear this thing.

If it's that expensive I'd rather find a used classic with all the trimmings.

I believe I read that the price is going to be around $2500. If thats the case, how are they building something that looks like this AND has the build quality of the Classic 3 or 4? No way....doesn't make any sense. I am willing to bet this is a case of beauty with large amounts of brains removed.

The platter looks like a shaved version of the Classic platter. Not as deep. Tonearm looks like a Traveller tonearm.

Platter is DEFINITELY less substantial than the Classic platter. I'm telling you, the whole company has shift major direction. If Mat were a true engineer, he would figure out how to make it really better for lesser price. Quality needs no marketing BS. Marketing just opens a great product to the proper audience and beyond.

Here's the website for it: https://www.shinola.com/audio.html#/

The modular phono and custom built cartridge makes me think that this is indeed for people who care more about how their turntable looks rather than how it sounds.

I dunno, Steve Woziak with his HD800s and Classic 4 looks pretty good.

I see parts of a traveller, classic and that new arm lower end arm they developed. Must be a market for it they....I'll be curious how this plays out.

Poor sucka....listening to the 3D arm and got only ONE tonearm on a dual tonearm capable turntable. ;)

Damn Classic 3 and 4 are such perfect examples of turntable design.

I stole the metal arm from him and wouldn't give it back.

I think that is the older 3D arm where the weight sags the back stub as well! HAHA!

If you stole the 3D arm, no big deal at all! Just tell them to "print" a couple more with their plastic pellets for the 3D printer. Atrocious! f**k up of the century IMHO. Can't believe HW went along with it.

I'm pretty sure I live next door to his son. Maybe I can work my way in there to fix up his turntable and get him into some speakers...

The Classic turntable looks beautiful to me. I don't care for the looks of Shinola turntable.

I figured everyone was wondering about that. :)

I took a look at the Shinola, and immediately thought of Grado. The end is nigh.

Overly-dramatic bullshit aside, I'm sad that the DD project is dead, I'm sad that the Classic line is being phased out, and I'm sad that Mat is catering to hipsters. VPI probably won't be my choice if I buy new, but I'll always keep my eye on used models designed by Harry.

Alex Rosson is Head of Audio for Shinola, so not sure where that will go. It might sound good, but the hipsters will never really care if they run it on self powered speakers. However, if it does work, vinyl could become more plentiful, more people will make them again, and the overall market will be the better for it.

    R.I.P. Classic quality.

Wtf is a shinola? Seems like a purely american brand.

I have to say, the tt does look sick. It looks very very good. I can see how hipsters is a natural expansion for VPI. Not happy that the classic is discontinued though.

Shinola makes watches in Detroit (that'd their tag line). I think the name comes from the expression you don't know shine from Shinola.
