If Bolt could do that for a mile, it would be ~2m10s, which is of course impossible. 4 minute miles are rare, only around 1500 people have ever done that. Kipchoge just averaged 4m33s - for over 26 straight miles. That is mind blowing really.
It's a helluva feat, no doubt. But don't overlook that he had as many pacers as he wanted for the entire distance, many of whom only joined the run as earlier pacers tired. I reckon this is still 'only' equivalent to a 2:01-ish marathon under race rules. So still may be a few years until we see sub-2:00 in open competition
Pacers, super flat course, ideal conditions... At the end of the day he still put one foot in front of the other at 2:48-2:52/km for over 42km which is just immense. This has to be at the limit of what the human body can do, at least from a metabolic standpoint.
