Phew... Just in time... I was falling into the black hole there. o_O

    $5,000 on cables, $2,000 on a rack...

Or whatever percentages salesmen vomit these days. Along with the "more powerful" speakers.

Why are we being strawmanned as poor college student reddit objectivists? We have more experience with more and better audio equipment than you clearly do mate. I really think you should submit to our authority on these matters.

Much like a Vietnam vet whose mind never left the jungle, GUTB still thinks he's on reddit fighting the good fight. I don't think he ever came to terms with his ban .

I'm just saying it's probably some guy's butt. Making a butt your avatar isn't a normal thing to do, so it shouldn't suprise anyone.

What I do know about D/A conversion is that DSD does NOT go down a separate path; a direct-DSD feature means that the 1-bit stream bypasses some itermediate phases such as volume control, but all streams end up having to go through the final conversion stage and filtering. A commercial D/A chip can't make these logic decisions on a 1-bit stream, which is why even native DSD DACs have to at least convert to multibit -- the real question is whether or not there is any loss of data from the original stream. The fact the Vega converts to 1.5 Mhz (twice the rate of DXD) suggests that is the maximum frequency the D/A engine will handle.

Look who's talking. You have a penis symbol as your avatar.

The 1.5Mhz is in a separate buffer before DSD conversion, before it hits the Sabre 9018 chips. Think in terms of bandwidth. 1.534MHz x 32 bits (PCM) vs. 2.8224 x 1 bit (DSD). Auralic implemented this to make sure there is more than enough room for the internal PCM to DSD conversion. The DSD stream is Sabre 9018. You cannot make DSD work below 2.8224MHz. There is no such thing as 1.5MHz DSD.

But it doesn't matter. You are avoiding the fact that your DAC is still mass produced Chinese junk. Nothing will ever change that.

I'm pretty sure that's a female backside. At least, on a biological level.

It's okay, things get confusing under the bridge.

Maybe the display on his chi-fi DAC can double as a calculator so he can figure out what you just said.

Well, I thought it was female, but, whatever... If it ever got to the point of actually mattering, it wouldn't have been the backside that I checked out first.
    Normal? Normal? Normal?

You came here for normal?

Naw, I assumed the biological sex of said backside. I would never just assume the gender of a body part without drawing a face on it and asking it first.

Although Chinese hi-fi is mostly junk, there are some reputable and high-quality products -- such as this Gustard. I have no problem recommending the X20 has a legitimate value in hi-fi.

Even though it's claimed this isn't /r/headphones, why did the forum go unhinged because I commented on a non-controversial fact that the HD600 is mid-fi?

Apparently this thing has turned into something about me. That's either flattering or frightening, not sure which yet.

GUTB, if this avatar looks like a man's backside to you, I'd advise you to actually sell your stuff and go out. You might need that money for practicing with real humans.

LOL! Here is a common way to deal with DSD on a dual PCM/DSD chip (skip to page 18 "Direct Stream Digital (DSD) Format Interface and Timing"):
    http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/dsd1796.pdf

Does Auralic Vega does that? Like The Merv said, it could be DSD over PCM. Which is not mocksampling to 1.5 Mhz. These guys call it DoP (DSD over PCM):
    http://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/dac/auralic-vega-dac-full-review/ (Google is your friend)

For all I know, it could be DoP on the interface chip (like XMOS or whatever... read about DoP support in this spec ->https://www.xmos.com/download/private/AN00103:-Enabling-DSD256-in-the-USB-Audio-2.0-Device-Reference-Design-Software(1.0.2rc1).pdf), while the DAC chip itself receives DSD from the interface chip.

And what is DoP? Here you go son:
    http://www.dcsltd.co.uk/support/what-is-dop-dsd-over-pcm/

I would forget about this 1.5 MHz business. I mean, one could do it, but it makes no sense.

We agree. The HD600 is mid-fi, at best almost reaching hi-fi with TOTL upstream gear.

But the real issue is this: why you have become overly defensive to the point to making up random erroneous assumptions about gear (Vega DAC) that you don't own and have never heard in an attempt to deflect the well known FACT that your DAC is upper low-fi and a horrible value at $799.

And why are we talking about value? It is will established that good DACs start at $2000+
