-16F right now, was -22F when I left for work. How badly that sucks depends entirely on the wind, which is moderate at the moment (-38F with wind chill). The sun's out though, so that's nice.
It was -27F when I awoke and is around -20 now. Windchill matters if you have exposed skin. I realize few have the gear for weather this extreme, but it's not too bad for me. Thankfully I'm working from home and only have to be out and about for around 15 minutes at a time to check the barn and get the mail.
-46 with windchill here this morning. The sliding glass door on the back of our "luxury" apartment is pulling away from the wall and sub-zero air is coming in forming frost. So glad I'm moving soon! https://i.imgur.com/LiW8XpC.jpg
We're pretty sure the sub-zero air is filling up the entire back wall of our apartment. All the corners on the back are frosty like this: https://i.imgur.com/h9Mi50s.jpg
@OldDude04 Contracted to the lowest bidder and built with the cheapest materials. The only reason it looked nice when we moved in because it was brand new. This place will be completely dilapidated in 10 years.
@LetMeBeFrank unfortunately I'm going to sound old as I say that they simply do not build things like they used to. Now it's always like what you just posted, the cheapest bid with the cheapest materials. It's why we looked for pre-1970's brick construction when we went looking for our house.
@LetMeBeFrank WTF, that first pic looks worse than many homes in Colorado that have shifted or have failing foundations...after decades of dealing with poor soils, mind you.
I assume you've brought this up with apartment management?
@Hands Yes they are well aware. The other 3 tenants in this building have all filed maintenance requests about this same problem. Last year the door was fine but we were getting the same frost in the corners and they didn't seem to care.
I feel sorry to my Midwest folks. Bring out the t00bs and Class A stuff as @Cspirou said and stay warm. And me thinking I want to move up to New England, ahhahah. I still would do it....
I wore 4 layers to the office today, with the outer layer being a quilted and windproof pair of Carharrt overalls. I may have looked odd, but I was toasty till my jeep finally warmed up.
If you don't need to go out, stay inside friends. I have mild frostbite on my thumb from taking off my glove for two minutes to pump gas.
