My record was driving 3 hours round trip to Hamilton Ontario to vote for Bernie in the last primary. (And yes, you can legally vote on U.S. elections in Canada if you're an American)
I think they are just grateful that since dictatorship and martial law ended in 1987. Probably makes them super appreciative of even being able to vote. Also, I'm pretty sure they hate people's leader Emperor Xi and the rest of the commies.
US has too many people that take their right to vote for granted. Maybe we should make it mandatory like some other democracies have done. Must admit I’m not totally sold on the idea.
@Ringingears Because the people we really need to hear from are the ones who can't be bothered (sarcasm). One witnesses the same shameful failure of civic education at our most socially important universities as in the slums; compulsory voting might change not a thing.
High schools have stopped teaching civics the way they used to. A lot of folks don’t know the basics of how our government works. (or doesn’t sometimes). Wish I had the answer to all of this.
Teach the smarter children Greek and Latin. A few, at least, will be called out to by the philosophical virtues and by the character of a Socrates. I might yet be spared having to instruct the *entire* seminar of graduate students in long-established and fairly straightforward distinctions (fairness vs justice, acceptance vs tolerance, &c.).
