I've come across several references to force majeure at my work, especially for transportation companies. It's understandable as it's an external factor that they can't plan for or control. When I book DHL transports now, they even have a line item for "Emergency Situation" that they charge for on all bookings.
So it seems, I'm just worried about people using the current situation as grounds to dissolve prior agreements that end up leaving employees or service patrons at a disadvantage. Highly irregular times, seems like there's something new to worry about every other day.
As with anything, I'm sure there will be attempts to get out of prior agreements or contracts even if it's not justified. Anything specific you're concerned about?
Nothing with immediate personal ramifications. Just writing an article on the effect of pandemic on local workforce and gobsmacked at how badly off this renders the approx 600k contractual employees in the country.
Philippine gov't does not as far as I'm aware recognise COVID-19 pandemic as a fortuitous event, but it could happen.
The final bill for the pandemic will be gigantic, and it'll be regular folks paying for it... :/ And yeah, I can imagine that the effects on the local workforce are shocking, probably more than we know.
This year and 2021 I am going to be very vigilant. I already consider myself lucky to have a job in the food industry. Without a job I would have been broke. Being broke in times of crisis is not good...
