    I work at my college library help desk and always see people scanning their things in the middle and getting a huge boarder around it.

    Had 1 worse during college - had someone try to scan with the paper facing up instead of down and then wondering why the scans came out blank. Refused to listen to anyone and flip the sheet - held up the line for a solid 10-15 before me and another person chewed them out and they left.

    But in 2020. Things are more like.. : Run a scanning app on the phone --> Take a pic --> Image processed --> Send to emails/clouds/storages

    I haven't used the traditional scanner for the past three years or even more...

    Still have a scanner at home, and it does get used.

    But I've heard of youngsters in offices asking "what's a fax?" I sympathise. I remember all too well.

    @Thad E Ginathom I'm betting you remember the Roneo Mimeograph. I remember being tasked with cranking that thing in junior school to make class copies of worksheets.

    @GoodEnoughGear, you saying I'm old?

    You're right! And I remember the name Roneo (not to be confused with Boneo!) And am not sure which machine it was. Was it the one that produced pink/purple type? Then there was the one with the drum full of ink and a typed stencil: they type cut through a wax layer.

    Ah, yes, I certainly do remember that; I remember the sweet-spirit smell. In fact I don't think it died out until photocopiers became widespread. Didn't Xerox's patent mean that they were all *their* huge, very expensive, per-copy-licenced boxes before then?
