on the nightstand. On closer examination, the dust was... moving. On closer, closer examination, the bottom two drawers of the nightstand were filled with tulip bulbs (my aunt is a gardener) being devoured by many, many aphids.
After a lot of vacuuming and bug spray, they've thinned out, but they seem weirdly attracted to my headphones, which were sitting on a chair a few feet away. Particularly my Verité Closed and Susvara. I've been picking them off one by one with a lint roller.
And I can't imagine they'll do any lasting damage. But 1) Really hope they don't die or lay eggs and get on the drivers. 2) Gross. 3) Why on earth would they go for headphones and not a hundred other things in the room?
For now, I'm putting the HPs inside their cases, though I still am finding the occasional aphid on the VC. Trying to strike a balance between not letting new ones in and not letting the old ones die in the HPs. This is a pretty weird case, but open to suggestions.
They seem to be drawn to dark colors, and headphones are black in places. But maybe they're just f'ing with me. I feel like I'm living in A Scanner Darkly.
The tulip bulbs in the nightstand are just the start of it. There's also the dog hair and the hoarding of every knick knack under the sun. I'm ready to get back into my own place.
The okay news is that there were only a few at a time on the Sus and VC, so I don't think much harm is done there. (I have yet to test or take the earpads off.) And hopefully they stay away now that the bulbs are gone. But, yeah, gross.
Ha, cheers. If I can get one laugh out of this, it won't have been a total hygiene nightmare. For some reason, in addition to tulip bulbs, the aphids like my headphones (head) and glasses (also head). So excuse me while I go dip my dome in DEET.
