It's definitely supposed to be Row-sham-bo, apparently from a French word. My roots are also French, although long enough ago it's also not necessarily clear
We have a good idea how Rochambeau's name was pronounced by Americans in 1781 because it was the American code for attack at Yorktown. The Continental infantry found it easy to remember, because it sounded to them like "Rush on, boys!"
