None are things that should really depreciate much in value. Inflation?

The used market has been rough the last few years for sellers. Personally I think everything going up in price so much due to inflation has made everyone more cautious to spend on fun, not needed things, or literally unable to afford spending extra beyond the must have. I know my personal fun budget has been reduced to "I need to sell something if I want to buy something else for audio".

I wonder if Covid did not prop up the used market for a couple of years, now prices are “rationalizing” due to less demand and saturation

On one hand Canjam is getting bigger than ever as per YouTube videos OTOH used market is pretty rough for audio gear. I had to let go of my 800s for 700 last month.

@crenca The early-mid pandemic was a seller's market for mid-high end stuff. People who didn't have much money were struggling, but those who were comfortable and stable found themselves with excess cash because they were no longer travelling or going out and thus had more money leftover for toys.

Down here in USA @Armaegis , people (i.e. middle & upper middle class) also had government checks of significant size they never had before. I suspect the $1-5K part of the market (right were I'm at most of the time) was very artificially propped up. Sucks now if your a seller, not bad if you are a buyer...

Historically used stuff fetched about 60% on average due to dealer margins being about 40 points on electronics. Higher resale value brands fetch more like Apple and Schiit. On a good day you might get 65%. High end stuff you have to be patient or accept market.

@bixby I’m taking about buying used and then selling used 1-2 years later and having to sell for. 70% or less of the original used price - things that are popular and shouldn’t depreciate in value or demand.

Well that does suck, doesn't it. Seems like newer toy syndrome at play! Hard to predict what item is going to join a declining price market parade.

I can’t go to meets so it’s more like “want to hear different things syndrome” though definitely with an obsession! :)

Maybe it is like cars. Supply chain issues pushed up the price of new, and so made used command a premium. Now the supply chain is fixed and used cars no longer have that premium anymore.

@rhythmdevils - Not saying you are chasing new toys, rather that those now buying are, hence the lack of demand price for your really good slightly older stuff. Peeps often chase new even when new is not better.

@bixby oh cheers! Yeah I'm buying some new amps but a lot of older or obscure stuff that's definitely not FOTM! haha. I wish I could go to meets, it would free me from most of these purchases and the loss from resale. And then I could buy more orthos to modify! :D
