If I won, I request something for the loaner program in the price range. Something we don't have.

Oh I see, sorry I didn't get that bit. Phew, normal service restored.

Wow, we have a PM and direct reportee of Satya in the house. Pretty sure findley and gaurav is in tech as well. So many 1%'ers here =P

Times like these, i wish i took CS instead of a CA.

Im guessing Torq is a Director in IBM. Pretty sure its IBM.

If you are IBM, @Torq, I'd like a word about our SVC clusters that keep crashing... :p

I worked for Satya back in 2004/2005; and at that point, even as well respected and effective as he was, I doubt anyone thought of him as potential future Microsoft CEO, so it's wasn't that really that grand of a thing.

I never took CS formally, never went to college/university at all in fact, and do not have a degree. A handful of "O" levels is the extent of my formal schooling, which will probably only mean anything to any Britishers that were in school before the system there switched to the more US-like GCSE program.

Nope, never worked for IBM ... so unfortunately I can't help with those SVC clusters!

    ...

No reason to keep guessing now though, I'll do something different, and less silly, for the DAC/donation.

In the vein of my original intent, you were closest (and @Wilson was most entertaining), then absent me coming up with a better, simpler, less-make-myself-look-like-a-nob and more objective approach, that will work. It could just be two cash donations to the loaner fund as well, as the Modi Multibit I suggested was something I was going to buy (I'm keeping mine).

But let's see what I can come up with that isn't so silly and go from there (I have a couple of days travel to deal with now, but should be able to come up with something and still have a week before the LA meet).

I found this thread hilarious and a nice reprieve from all the sillyness around here sometime.
Much better too talk nonsense about one self than others - I understand that this is the British way.

I was pretty sure that you work for Tesla.
Your name, your fascination with dacs that use own software code, etc.

PS. I need some Schiit to compare to my Mojo...
Those are pretty hard to find in Europe without caveats.

..should have some in pretty soon, if you're after a Modi Multibit. Alternatively, you can order directly from Schiit in the US, I've found them really quick on the couple of occasions that I used them.

So, given that this didn't go where it was intended, and my current schedule means I'm not actually going to have time to do anything similar in the next week or so, I'm just going to go with what I have from those that participated in the intended spirit of the thing.

    Which means:

@zerodeefex Got closest, and he's generously elected to have his "prize" go to the loaner program. It seems there isn't a Modi Multibit in the loaner program at present, so that might work out nicely, but I'll let him and @Marvey figure out if they want an actual Modi Multibit, the equivalent donation, or whatever works best there.

@cizx Was, I guess, second closest. This means he gets nothing as, per my original post, "this is a reminder that second place is just the first loser".

@Wilson Was next, and I'll leave it up to him as to whether I send him a Modi Multibit or, again, something equivalent (Shoot me a PM with what you'd like and where to send it).

Edit: Corrected from MODI to Modi Multibit, just to be clear!

(And yes, that technically means I've swapped the "rewards" for places 1 and 3. It also means a bit more multi-bit musicality is out there, so I can't say I feel at all bad about that.)

    Yep, that's it.

It was a momentary, misjudged, whim, playing off an existing thread as an off-hand bit of silliness/fun. I'm not reneging on what I promised, but I'm highly disinclined to try something similar again (I prefer to learn from my mistakes), and unexpected travel means I am not going to have the time to do it anyway (I'll be lucky if I can make the flights for the 5th I've already paid for).

Besides, I just I make the tea.

Can you share pics of the rest of your watch collection sometime? The ones you shared were cool!

Also, big thanks on whatever you end up contributing to the loaner program!

Will do, as soon as I pull them back out of the safety deposit box ... put them in there while showing the house, just in case.

You mentioned you know the author of Modernist Cuisine which is Nathan Myhrvold. He used to be with Microsoft and since you are in Seattle it seems to be a given that you knew him while you worked there. Of course Zerodeefex already mentioned that.

Or maybe you work with Intellectual Ventures
