Isn't it about time for a new EC amp?

Did SBAF become the place to wax idiotic and opine about possible definitions for colloquialisms while I was gone? :)

You can call me the conductor of the hype train if you want! I personally found the amp to be a great value if it drops in the under $2k price range. I'd say the Copperhead leans more toward the Studio side of the neutrality spectrum and potential buyers should keep that in mind.

Now that's something I could get behind. I'd love a box like that.

Macro-micro dynamics, explosiveness vs for example EC 2A3 MK2? :p:p:p
This could tilt me away of diy-ing another amp..

I'm still looking forward to that $0-600 amp we heard about a bit back. The BW seems like a cool (edit: dead) dude as well, but I won't be making any more audio purchases until next winter or spring due to the Gungnir Multibit and Carbon this year. Plus the feckin' Grados! :p Glad to see everyone's onboard with what we've got goin' though, I'll have to make it to a meet to see what the fuss is about.

Also, now that I'm interested in tubes..

How is the staging on the prototype Copperhead? I tend to find a lot of solid state amps a bit on the flat side. Any comparison thoughts to the Rag in this regards?

Sounds like a kick-ass product and a great counterpoint to a nice tube amp - I'm definitely interested.

What ever happened to that hybrid? Maybe 6sn7 ---> copperhead solid state output buffer?

I'm curious where you would put Liquid Carbon in your spectrum.

Update on the mysterious Copperhead? Starting research on a solid state amp purchase and this checks most of the boxes.

(without ya know, actually seeing or hearing it)

It's glowing, and you better not break it.

@purrin, you must be running them quite high to make them glow like that.

The mercury vapor just glows like that. I dimmed the lights too. Frank Cooter used to bring them to meets, until discussion of the potential dangers and liability on diyaudio and the fact that someone almost sat on one of them at one meet freaked him out. Mercury is hazardous, so probably a bad idea to break them while operating (the vapors will spew out, in solid form, not too much of a concern). There is safe Xenon gas equivalent to the tube. Glows in a different color.

From what I've read the glow depends on the voltage too, the higher the voltage, the brighter the glow.

I wonder if you could build an amp with tubes that glow red through violet, so you could hear the rainbow. #Synesthesia

Then again, that probably involves the BIG triodes to get yellow, so it's probably best to avoid that and not deal with 1kV bias voltages and multi-amp filament currents.

Been awhile since I've read anything on the Copperhead.

    @Marvey
    Anything new to tease?

Need my EC fix, my 650 is hungry.
