Dropped the Weiss DAC off to @Clemmaster in person last night - thanks for meeting me.

I appreciate being included in the loaner tour. I looked for the impression thread but can't find one - where should we post our impressions?

Weiss DAC was really well packed and everything looks fine.
Just FYI: the tiny stick-on feet slid around a bit, but it's not uncommon for this type of feet. I put them back in the corner but they might move again.

Edit: one of the screw on the Noise Nuke is loose. It's working fine, though.

On its way to @Vansen, regrettably :p

I call dibs on buying the loaner, if that’s an option and I didn’t end up buying one already :D

This arrived today. The package looks fine, but the transformer came loose on the noise nuke in shipping from that loose screw. The transformer beat up the noise nuke chassis, but I am in contact with @Azimuth about it. I was able to replace the screws and securely mount the transformer again.

This is the third audio product I have received here over the years with a loose transformer, which is the only shipping damage I’ve ever had to deal with in 15 years here and head-fi. (An EC amp and a Schiit product). In the future, we should probably hold off on shipping something with a loose transformer until we can figure out a plan.

I cannot get this DAC to lock onto a signal, so have yet to get sound out of it. We couldn’t get a lock on a Coax signal in Austin with this device and I can’t get it to work and make sound at home. Is there anything special I need to do with this dac to get a signal lock from my source.

I had issues getting audio to come out and maybe this is an obvious thing you've tried already, but via coax, I just had to make sure the Input Selector toggle was set to TOS (not RCA, which is what I had it at originally).

I got it to work via Coax just fine, fed by my Holo Red. I don't recall if I have to select TOS or RCA, though? It didn't strike me as backwards, but I might have had to turn it off and back on to lock.

I quickly moved to USB, which I felt sounded better.

Sending this off to @Soups tomorrow. I replaced the feet on this guy and repaired the noise nuke. When using coax, the source switch needs to be toggled repeatedly until you get a lock (10% chance), but is good once you get it on that setting. The LEDs never changed on the DAC regardless of the source being fed.

However, this is one of the best sounding DACs I’ve heard in a home environment. It sounds better in my setup than Spring or Yggdrasil. I’d be happy with this, but suspect that I’d like the Holo May or Allnic DACs just as much or more in my system. This is one of the best DS DACs that’s I’ve heard. If you add the Noise Nuke and feed it with HQplayer and Diretta, it really improves the performance of this DAC to make it very nice.

I still think the Radio Shack look, Temu feet, and cheap SMPS at $3.5k should be a crime, but it sure sounds nice.

I paid UPS $8 to hold this at a nearby UPS drop point so I can pick it up. Allegedly there was a weather delay and today I missed them but they never knocked or rang the bell. So I plan to pick it up tomorrow morning from the hold location.

Also, when did you start having to pay for UPS to hold a shipment at a location? WTF?

DAC received. USB playback was a pain in the ass but it is working now. Holo Red saw the DAC, but I had to cycle the input switch a few times and finally back to USB before it would lock signal.

Despite initial annoyance everything is working. I plan to spend a lot of time with it over the holiday so I should know by Monday if it’s good or not.
