Loaner: ZMF Caldera

Even prettier in person (IMO) … red is richer, swirling grain adds texture to the contrasting shades in the wood.

A closed-back set from this wood might never make it out of the showcase onto a head.

I guess the pads on the headphones are the ‘Caldera Stock’ mentioned on the card and the other pads are in labeled bags.

 

There are 3 caldera stock pads I think?
I wasn’t sure what came on the headphone but I think @zach915m nailed it! This pair literally fixed all the issues I had with the original pair (the disconnected treble) and are so well tuned they I never felt like trying other pads.

 

We shipped them with stock lambskin on them, and then I think suede and cowhide? I am not 100% sure.

And yes sorry for the not quite representative example for the first few ppl on tour, that early batch of drivers in pre-pro wasn't quite perfect until we had the jigs redone for tensioning and magnets. Glad the production unit is getting around.

 

Sending them on tomorrow. But still confused about pads. They came w/ 5 sets. Stock lambskin were on the cans. Then there were 4 bags labeled:

Caldera suede
Caldera thick lambskin
Caldera thin cowhide
Caldera cowhide

but on the website I only see 1 set of cowhide (thin).

I suspect the ‘Caldera cowhide’ are really thin lambskin — they certainly are thin.

Box with headphones in it was a bit shop-worn. So I got an new box from the shipping store, large enough to include headphones and pads together.

I really appreciate the loaner ... miss them already

Received the headphones today from @Inoculator today. The packaging is very interesting, but it arrived in great shape for how many people have used it.

 

Yeah the outer box is in interesting shape at this point. I did not have time to go source another outer box before shipping, but should happen soon. Inner box still seemed good and then headphones are in the hard shell case. Glad to hear they arrived safely.

 

I'm signed up for this loaner at #24, but please take me off -- I'm paring things back, and it doesn't really make sense for me to evaluate these right now.

 

I have an assortment of extra boxes around. Not sure if I'll have the right fit but I'll try to replace it when it gets to me.

 

Will be shipping the headphones out to @Failed Engineer Monday.

 

I don't know who or why they did it but someone cut a hole through the bottom of both boxes then tried to patch the holes with random pieces of cardboard. Hence why I completely missed a pair of pads. I didn't have a box big enough to fit the headphones into and have been to busy with post transplant stuff to go get a new one. So I'm send them in the patch work boxes. Right now the only thing holding the outer box together is a prayer and a shit load of tape.
