That's not even necessary when we look at the real deal:

They have not discovered the benefits of hand grenades...much less bulky and lighter than guns. I came to this conclusion after having served in a real army.

LOL, grenades harder to get. Their main problem may be running with ARs and ammo. Gotta be in shape to do that. Hard to start a revolution, kidnap Gretchen, when you can't even run 10 meters without losing your breath. Carrying people you kidnap on your back isn't easy either.

Na, we might actually find real wilderness men like Jeremiah Johnson up in the UP. These guys look more like they are from the boonies outside of Lansing or Detroit.

Bahaha reminds me of a dude I went to school with. Behind it all he had this weird Norma/Norman bates family thing with his mom. She used to call him an "all american boy" in front of us and shit. Even as a grown ass man he still literally went home to mommy for colds to have grilled cheese and tomato soup while he snuggled up on the couch. Stuff like that gets around facebook fast. Grown man making near six figures. Mr Pokerface McSunglasses with his truck balls on his super-lifted, decked-out turbo diesel. Cant even make this shit up. Every time I see one of those trucks I see that guy laying on the couch with his cowboy hat and sunglasses, getting spoon fed tomato soup by his mother.

Hard to say. To me it's nothing big, I grew up there and visit my buddies who live there all the time. There's valid reasons to avoid the city, no doubt, but I'm just used to it.

Probably not. Just like the homies don't go into biker bars. They're all stupid pussies. I've been and continue to go to places most consider "unsafe" but I've never had problems. Just treat people with respect like you would anywhere else. People don't f**k with you unless you're an asshole.

My son and I used to have an inside joke when we were driving through Denver and saw one of the many 1-ton lifted coal-rollers on the road there, immediately turning to one another with our pinkies raised. He was like 8-9 yo; I'm a terrible father.

Destroyit hasn't turned into the city in Omega Man or I am Legend yet.

It's basically barren and not much to do. It hasn't changed since I last lived in Michigan 20 years ago. Reasons to go to Detroit are the Auto show, the boat races by the river, 4th of July fireworks, Lafeyette Coney Island, Motor City Casino (which is dumb), real soul food joints, the Fox theatre, the cruise on Woodward. I did it all with friends while when I lived in the area. I wouldn't say that I avoided Detroit, but I rarely found reason to be there often.

Like any other big city, you do have to be careful. I knew a girl who got shot with her body set on fire in an abandoned house. This is kind of Detroit thing because there are so many vacant homes.

Farmington is boring. I'd never live there myself. I can imagine white people from there being scared of Detroit. Many people are racist or prejudiced and they don't even know it. The reasons are historical. Detroit and Farmington are different universes. Maybe Royal Oak and Fernale might be a buffer zone between them. I dunno, everyone I knew from Farmington didn't venture out much, except up north for vacations.

So... installing the likes of William Barr, Chad Wolf and Betsy DeVos doesn't count? or his transparent attempts to rope in the police and armed forces?

I wish I could say "vote whoever you want, its your country", but I am genuinely worried that Trump might consider upping the ante against China and turn South East Asia into a warzone.

I genuinely don't understand why people believe Trump is going to start WWIII. If you ignore his rhetoric, he's the most anti-war president we've had in decades since Carter. His staffers have said he plays up the good cop, bad cop schtick. Good cop when Bolton was SecState because everyone knew he is a warmonger (one of Trump's worst appointments), bad cop with Haley and Pompeo.

Aside from lobbing missiles at Russians in Syria, he is actually making good on withdrawing troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and is reducing our unappreciated role as Team America, World Police. He's also the only President to make any progress whatsoever towards peace in the Middle East.

Obama continued the failed foreign policy and wars of GWB. Obama and Hillary Clinton's actions towards regime change, lack of support for the Iraqi and Afghanistan governments, and drone strikes were abhorrent. I'm thankful that we've stopped exporting democracy to troubled states without real, sustained commitment towards seeing things through, which is probably near impossible given polarization in Congress, the Senate, and the absurdly bad strategic planning at the Pentagon.

I really don't understand what people expect of Trump. Should we have declared war on Russia for the mess in Ukraine? If people are worried about war with China, they should look at how ticked off East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia are with China. China has actually accomplished getting the Japanese and Korean governments to align on foreign policy and stop talking about Dokdo/Takeshima. The only countries who like the Chinese government at this point are African nations and China's quickly using up its capital with its racist actions towards African expats in China, particularly during COVID.

Why should we ignore the rhetoric? It is what China and the rest of the world thinks of it that matters, not what he actually thinks. The fact that Southeast Asia and Taiwan are ticked off with China means the US has a realistic chance of stirring shit in the region.

Also, once Trump secures his presidency, I can't help but feel that he is going to start looking for other distractions. Beating China in South East Asia might just be the thing that makes him feel big.

Aside from crude language and killing Russians in Syria, could you share a few concrete examples of what Trump is doing to encourage war? I'd argue that killing Soleimani was to show Middle Eastern states that the current White House will not back down to Iranian aggression as well as retaliation for decades of regional destabilization by the Quds Force. Iran even checked itself with Operation Martyr Soleimani, informing Iraqi PM Abdul Mahdi about the attack in advance which Iran certainly knew would be leaked to the United States. That way Iran was able to save face without seriously ticking off the United States.

I also forgot to mention that Trump has reduced Isis to less than a footnote, has made marginal gains towards reapproachment with Egypt, and helped deescalate Syria and Libya.

    It actually doesn't count.

My parents and relatives lived under martial law in Taiwan and I saw the fear firsthand. My parents were involved in the Taiwan democracy movement.

I recall my dad's meetings with democracy movement people, who looked out the door, the windows, and asked about any wa-shing-ren (people born in the mainland) associates of people at the meetings. This to make sure secret police weren't listening in. When I was seven and didn't understand fully what was going on, I asked an Aunt if the KMT as good or bad. She looked frightened and sternly instructed me that of course they were good because they were number one and ruling the island. Other family friends, more active in the movement, who visited Taiwan, told me of stories of how they were followed and accosted. The KMT would hire gang members to disrupt meetings in the USA of the democracy activists. These meetings always had children present (I was one) as they also served as cultural gatherings. Local police would have be called. We are talking about Sunnyvale, CA in the 1980s. The KMT hired gang members to assassinate Henry Liu in the 80s, an outspoken critic of the regime - in Daly City CA of all places. In the early 80s, a Taiwanese professor studying in the US, critical of the KMT, returned to Taiwan despite being warned not to. Secret police arrested and tortured him. He was found dead the next morning because of a "fall".

You have no idea what authoritarianism is really like.

Although the killing of Soleimani didn't lead to WW3, would you confidently say at the time that it wouldn't? Just because it turned out alright in hindsight doesn't change the fact that Trump did this on impulse, against all advice.

The military campaign against ISIS started in 2014. Is it really fair to give Trump the credit for their decline?

I'll just add one more thing: I don't believe that Trump subscribes to a warmongering ideology. I simply believe that he will do what he thinks will serve him best, and this might include f'ing shit up outside of the US.

I'm saying that Trump is taking steps to become a dictator by installing loyalists in key positions and cozying up with the police and military, not "the US has already become a dictatorship". Shouldn't that concern you if you don't want to see the US become 1950s Taiwan?
