As a city boy myself I have to say there are few, if any, big cities in America where you buy your meat live. People like to pretend it was never alive.

That's why I said "in general" and "most." There are no absolutes.

^ And this is exactly why Trump got elected over Hillary.

WTF does Qanon have to do with what I'm talking about? Or standing on four-wheelers and deer hunting? I'm sure there are people like you what described, but I personally knew no one like that in the boonies of Michigan.

My old digs in nowhere Michigan. Looks exactly the same 22 years later. Well, the roof is new.

Four wheeler. Kind of needed for big yards out in the boonies. Definitely not for standing up and shooting deer - which would generally be a bad idea even in these parts - high power rifles and all - projectiles go long distances.

Neighbor had a 1G Mitsubishi Eclipse. I had 2G. We had our cars worked on, bigger turbos, exhaust, suspension, etc. Turned out we belonged on the same DSM boards where she gave me advice on my motor stuttering problems (damp stock spark plug wires). We only figured out later that we were neighbors.

Different topic that popped into my mind while I was reading about random financials today. IIRC at least half of US spending is for Social Security and "benefits" / entitlements every year. Just read that the median boomer, the largest segment of the US pop, only has ~$70k in their 401k. A little bit more in other retirement funds. While part of me wants to ask WTF were they doing - the generation that had no real international competition, structured everything to benefit themselves at the expense of their parents and kids, cheap everything, etc... the rest of me wonders how everyone after them (a much smaller part of the population pyramid) is going to keep this show going as is?

I want a real politician leader with balls to come in and close the whole thing down. Give everyone a check for the amount they put in, add interest that reflects the returns of the S&P500 or whatever metric you choose for that year. Close down every unsustainable program. etc. I noticed that Biden and Trump didn't talk about anything along these lines. Or how we could kick this can down the road by a few more years if we stopped allowing tax evasion via moving $ overseas...

OR is it not boomers screwing up but rather inflation that isn't sustainable in which case there is just no way to win by saving for more than half the population by default?? (IMO it's not 2% of whatever a year... even considering that 2% a year is exponential and not linear, real cost of living has increased by more than 2% a year).

EDIT: OK the above was a bit of a hangry rant as I was waiting for my late dinner to cook... but in all seriousness... I don't see how the math is going to work out on this for the majority of the population. If there's unrest now...

im not sure where you read that, but I believe at this point social security is still paying out a tad bit less then its taking in.... although the pandemic might be hurting that number. Social Security at least is not part of our yearly budget. I am not read up enough to know how well medicare is funded. Its a sticky wicket all the way around. like everything, many shades of gray.

When I was growing up, live chickens for sale were a common sight at SF Chinatown markets. My mother would sometimes buy one and slaughter it at home for a Chinese holiday. Sale of live chickens steadily declined in SF and finally became banned relatively recently (about 10 years ago), largely because of animal activists. There was a big debate about whether the ban is a form of cultural discrimination. Today, there would be another angle to the story in our era of species jumping viruses.

First off I have actually lived in rural areas for the majority of my life. Good for you because I personnel know more than one person who buys into Qanon. Its not some liberal plot look at the people holding Q signs at rallies. Or gulp read a couple articles on its popularity (I think the republicans party endorsed a Qanon believer in congress). I also know many people who think Covid 19 is not big deal. They also are pro life. I often wonder how many deaths does it take for a pro-life republican to care?

I have lived in LA, NE and MO. I knew people in every one of those places who sat in a stand and shot deer. I could care less I eat them but in no way does that make them superior during end times. When I go to rural areas the obesity problem is serious. If you don't think being morbidly obese would effect them in a survival situation ... well ok them we will just have to disagree

The my point about Quanon, the increased hate crimes, the synagogue across the street that has to install security cameras. the mass shooting of Hispanic people. Murder of protesters etc. Maybe the people on the right should take stock. They lost. Maybe they should do some reflection on what they support and stop dismissing other people in this country. Is that point clear enough? Your not the victim. I have quite the clear picture of what the other side supported for the last 4 years. So do others. Did you watch the news People were celebrating in the streets. Not fired up by hate and resentment but joy of not having not have liar, corrupts neo fascist in charge of the county.

I not the one who posted some overly broad comment about people who live in cities you did. I have a lot of misspelling and grammatical errors. Hopefully this proves I don't read books which of course means My Naked Afraid PSR rating went up. Maybe my chances of survival jumped in end times.

Those kingdoms changed hands all the time. That being said, the Romanovs outlasted the USA and held onto the Tsarist Autocracy until they were shot.

Agree on boomers... many were consumption kings... the me generation. I have a boomer relative, high priced attorney, big house, big cars, big titted wives, no savings at all, stone cold broke and now working his retirement as a meat department clerk at the local grocery store. Lives month to month in a small apartment, waiting for his SS check to be deposited.

Another relative (greatest generation), traveling salesman for a beer distributor and she was a stay at home mom. He and his wife lived in the same house they built themselves in the 60's (with a lot of the same furniture from the 60's), paid cash for everything, sent 5 kids to college (kids didn't pay a dime), they recently passed and had over 600k stashed in various savings accounts, money market funds, US treasuries, etc.

Anecdotal, everyone is different... I know. But I seriously wonder WTH is going to happen to this country if interest rates ever go back to historical norms. That would break this country (ie., imagine the interest on the national debt)

So what is your attitude to other people in this country, if, in your view, they are supporting what you call:
    .
I came from a communist country and we hated communism, not so much communists, and that why the transition in Eastern Europe was pretty gentle. But I realized I didn't know anything about hate driven by politics until I started reading the comment pages of NYT during Trump presidency. And it was not just hate for Trump, no, the hate was very inclusive, all Trump voters were included.
It always amazed me how much people need to lie to themselves to maintain ideological purity.

Play the race card much? Will you do the GOP a favor and campaign for Harris/Biden in 2024? You can use the word "deplorable" as much as you want!

I think you missed my point: How and why did Trump even get that close? 48.5%. This considering that you have "quite the clear picture what the other side supported" and the the extremely dumb tweets from the man himself. How? Clearly something is amiss.

The answer is clearly not that Trump supporters are as you say obese guys standing on four wheelers shooting deer. Also, almost everyone is obese in MI, regardless of political leanings. Wayne county was 90% Biden, and that is seriously one obese county.

IME, I just don't see my suburban neighbors (with the exception of the nice old lady with the shotgun across the street) as capable of self-sufficiency as the folks I lived next to in rural areas. This clearly played out when the fires ravaged through my neighborhood two years ago. I'm sorry if you took this the wrong way. Clearly you have a problem because I don't denigrate my very progressive co-workers and neighbors as avocado-toast eating tax loving socialists. I don't agree with California politics, but my co-workers and neighbors are good people.

Most people who play the race card aren't people of color; and among people of color, how they experience racism is different.

I can't help but feel that the media has overblown racist incidents against Asians during COVID, I have never experienced any outright racism like the below (nor was I refused a ride by Uber drivers):

    [IMG][IMG]

Michael Lofthouse I've never experienced before and honestly I think the dude was just drunk. If he did that to my family I would have beaten the shit out of him.

Park Ranger Karen is a lot more scary because I've seen this attitude in the Bay Area, particularly in the 1980s. I figure she's one of those holdouts since she lives in Marin where Asians are fewer.

When I lived in Michigan, I never had a problem. This being an Asian guy with a blond-haired Caucasian wife (still rare even in California). I initially thought I would have had a problem, I was scared of meeting her dad for the first time; but it turned out to be paranoia based on a few experiences in California and misconceptions about people who live in rural areas. The only place where my wife and I felt slightly uncomfortable, like people were staring at us, was in Lexington, Kentucky.

It's strange how "racist" incidents play out in school. My son has never experienced one iota of racism. Part of it is because he's kind of dick, won't take shit, and knows a good comeback. One of his friends, another Asian kid, was picked on all the time with slanty-eye gestures and a variety of other jokes - to the point here his parents moved him to another school. This however was really a matter of playground dynamics. It's sad, but weak kids will get picked on.

The stuff that scares me the most is hidden racism like "poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids" - that's the stuff that belongs in the Ranger Karen category of racism - deeply embedded "light" racism that translates in glass ceiling stuff in the workplace. Also, I've ranted about how Hollywood (our national standard bearer of racial equality) is so inherently racist, particularly in respect to how they portray Asian men. It's changing though.

The most racism that I ever experienced was in NYC. Koreans using the N word against Blacks in their fruit shops, Blacks using the I word against me in a shop (thanks to my Jewish name), Dominicans use so much racist words against the Haitians (calling them lazy Ns) when I was talking to some in Manhattan casually, Italians throwing bananas during any black-protest, etc.

    "NYC Values"

Here in "progressive" Calabasas, I've heard the worse racist shit anywhere from my daughter's schoolmates: "My parents won't let me date black girls." I was like seriously? WTF? Does his parents think you (being Asian) is sub-human too, or did we make it into honorary-white-man status? Because I'd seriously like to know. I'm both surprised and not surprised; but it scares the f**k outta me that there are people who think this while outwardly presenting something entirely different.

It would seem that the the more well-off you are, the more prevalent these secret beliefs. This why I don't buy this media bullshit about racist groups being such a threat. At least with the racist groups, we know where they stand. Much scarier when your physician neighbors at the top of the hill are secret racists in the true meaning of the word (as opposed to prejudiced).

Don't worry. In California, we all think the same thing, but say the proper thing. Well, actually, all the jewish boys in her high school call each other the N-word. I don't think it's intentional racism - more of a fun thing do to - cultural. I dunno what kids do these days to be cool. Daughter says Weezer is ghey, but Aphex Twin is timeless. I can't disagree - proud dad that she discovered Aphex Twin on her own.

Ever watched Jungle Fever where that White Female who got her ass belted by her father since she was having sex with a Black Man?

Saw that shit before in my life via my relatives. If my sisters were younger and they brought over a Black Man, their ass would be whipped. My dad was pretty clear that no one will be banging around with Black Men around his watch.

Only thing I have to say is meeehhh, old NYC.

A question for those pushing the fraud votes narrative: how come the Dems didn't take the Senate and lost seats in the house? Or was it an effort to take the presidency and castrate it with a red congress? Are they that stupid?

All the sexual and orientalist stereotypes are still around. A lot of African-American stereotypes were probably just appropriated slave stereotypes that have been around since classical antiquity and mostly applied to “white” people then.
