I thought Wind River was very good. Definitely not what you would expect.

I took your advice and watched The Drop last night. I found it quite enjoyable, thanks.

    "Sure you did" LOL.

Sicario was a very good film. I did not even realize there was a sequel. Adding that to my (long) to-watch list.

    Lmfao. Seriously, great movie.
The ending is left open for interpretation. Nadia goes inside, you hear foot steps, is that Bob getting arrested? Does Bob kill. Nadia because the Chechens know there is another witness? Such a great movie..."Sure you did" great line too.

I'm so disappointed in myself, completely forgot to go see Sicario 2 while it was still in broad release, going to have to either go see it on a suboptimal screen before it goes away completely, or wait for it to come out on disc. I thought the first was truly excellent, one of the better films I've seen recently.

Eight Grade was fantastic. It really captured what it's like to grow up now. Highly recommended.

Sicario 2 was entertaining, but it doesn't measure up to the original. Missing is the deftness and delicateness which made it great. Still a very worthwhile watch.

I've immensely enjoyed all the films written by Taylor Sheridan, who seems to have found some sort of niche - his works all possess a backdrop that is startlingly bleak and desolate. In that sense, Villeneuve is/was the textbook director that you'd pick to work with him.

If you haven't already, Hell or High Water and Wind River are truly excellent films in a similar mold to Sicario that you might enjoy as well. All three are some of my favorite movies to have come out within the last 2-3 years.

Holy crap, you're right! I usually find it hard to separate actors from roles they've been typecasted into, but for some reason I completely failed to notice it.

Actually that was not my quote, that was Elnrik. I don't actually know who Hawkeye is, but I remember Jeremy Renner from The Hurt Locker. I certainly know who The Scarlet Witch is though.

Have not read all the way back in this thread, but did not notice any mention of Oscar winners The Shape of Water or Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Those two definitely make my top list of recent films. If you have not seen them, do so.

Last night I watched Beirut. Won't make my top list of the year but was certainly entertaining and worth a watch. 7/10

Looking forward to it. Love the Predator series. And the Alien series. And, er, the both series LOL.

A recent sci-fi flick I can definitely recommend is called Life. Think a cross between Alien and Arrival. Worth the watch.

Three Billboards was immense. My pick for Best Picture.

The Shape of Water was alright for me. No doubt excellent on a technical level and very easy to appreciate as an artistic piece. From a completely subjective standpoint though, I'm just not a very big fan of this genre, in particular the setting, and till this day I haven't quite decided whether I like it or not.

Agree it is not for everyone. My neighbor hated it. I guess if we all had the same tastes the Academy would not have to bother voting. A big part of that movie for sure is the production, Guillermo del Toro does a great job creating a surreal atmosphere.

Another of his works that you might try watching is Pan's Labyrinth from about a decade ago. I believe it won Best Cinematography. Also a much darker story.

My girl loved shape of water, I didn't care for it, dragged on and couldn't wait for the end. 3 billboards was f'ing awesome. Loved it. One of the best movies I've seen in a while.

Ah yes, this is one I've been meaning to catch for some time, but never got around to doing so. This is a timely reminder.

Oh, damn. Forgot about Pan's Labyrinth. Great movie. My girl made me watch that year's ago. She's opened my eyes up to a lot of different things. Her and I are so different, opposite tastes in damn near everything. We both keep an open mind and it works out well as we get to enjoy things we'd never of even thought of looking at in the first place

Have not seen Wind River, will add it to the list to be sure, thanks for the recommendation. I suppose S2 was going to have a hard time measuring up to the first one, hard to replicate that.

    A Quite Place -

    Enjoyable but overrated.

Women don't give birth and then fight off monsters after a quick power nap.

The notes on the white board also made me laugh...you've been out there for over 400 days and that's all you've got?

Ultimately, I loved the premise and felt the movie had some strong moments. Still, it felt half-baked at times, and there were too many moments that pulled me out of the film and back into my critical head-space.

    Blade Runner 2049 -

Enjoyable and entirely underrated. It's refreshing to see a movie that doesn't mind taking its time.

I thought the giving birth scene was the most exciting one in the movie.

It's what happens afterwards that I was complaining about.

It was good but I didn’t realize the girl was deaf at first which would have explained the thing with the toy. And...

The monsters are blind and hunt by sound, nobody thought to use sound against them before, really?
