How much would tube rectification contribute to the sound?

 

With the WA7TP power supply, the increase in soundstage depth was noticeable over the SS power supply with the WA7. It was very much worth the upgrade.

Its not super crazy, but something they have not done before.

 

Except... aren't tube power supplies DC? All the small chassis Schiit gear takes AC input.

 

A sealed device that promises to clean up your power signal, but its actually just input -> output.

Schiit reveals internal design months later, thus pissing off a lot of "audio purists"

I don't see a market for this device. Well, maybe the crossfeed-ish for headphones. Competes with the Soul for that?

Is the meetup going to have a Dolby processor to A/B?

 

Surround sound? Sigh.

And only really two inputs and no HDMI, which Schiit won't do. This seems a product aimed at gamers maybe. What? Just because it can decode Dolby and it has a crossfeed circuit. And of course no bass management. At least they gave it a remote.

Do we also know what surround sound decoders it has on board: AC-3, Pro-Logic II, DTS, DTS-Neo:6, DTS Neo 2.5, Dolby Atmos, Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus.

I am only assuming it can decode PCM and AC-3, but please correct me if I am wrong.

 

That was my takeaway, PCM basically.

I’m kind of confused as to who this is for. In order to actually get surround sound out of this, you’ll still need a multi-channel amp, right? How many companies make multi-channel power amps with no built in digital processing? Emotiva is the only one I can think of.

I’m sure it sounds good, I’m just not seeing many applications for this where there isn’t already something in the system that can decode all the surround standards. That’s just me.

 

Just stereo. It mixes up center and surround channels from a stereo signal and filters+boost for LFE.

 

If it can do a decent stereo+sub thing, then I'm impressed.

 

For $400 a person can get a pretty decent AVR that will actually decode the two major formats. This is a pretty niche device that will likely only appeal to hard core audio enthusiasts that want to play with a toy.

The talk on the product page about standards changing is perplexing. Dolby and DTS have been around for years and will be for years to come.
