That's a fair point. Good on them for not trying to charge a kidney's worth for a new pair of headphones (if the price speculated is correct).

I have no problem with the old enclosure if it keeps costs down and keeps the sound consistent.

Really looking forward to this... For me this is the most important headphone launch since the HD 800. Not an easy task to update the (for many) the greatest headphone design of all time. Really glad personally that they aren´t changing the design that much. More or less the same design with new high tech drivers is exactly my dream headphone.

Also neat to see if they are including a balanced pentaconn cable with this. That seems to imply they are moving towards that in place the current XLR solutions.

The HD650 design is indeed iconic. It’s also timeless, unlike the HD700 and HD800.

Consider a variation of this design was used early on for the Orpheus and even now for Sennheiser’s flagship, the HE-1.

Yeah, honestly, my hd650 is the most comfortable headphones I have tried, apart from the mdr-z1r

I have to say the HD 700 is my favorite design so far even eclipsing the HD 650 - it´s by far the most comfortable headphone I´ve ever used. So lightweight and the cups adjust much better than on the HD 650 design. Perfect clamp force too. That being said, reusing the classic chassis means the price is going to be lower plus apparently a lot of the HD 700 treble issues aren´t inherent to the driver, but come from the chassis design...

Praying to the gods of Germanic transducers that this one has wider staging than the HD650.

I actually really like the design / look / feel of the HD700 too.
The HD800 is too large to rest comfortably on my face.

You’ll need to pray to the Austrian gods for another K1000

Ugh not a fan of the K1000. I'd settle for average staging on the HD660S, such that it isn't a weakness (as it is with the HD650 imho).

My dim and distant memories of the Utopia was that it was fairly underwhelming in those stakes too; do I remember correctly?

How long until you buy another pair of HD800 and re-do all the mods? You know that is a very real risk ^_^

The K1000 is a fun curiosity but overrated (often by those with pairs to flip).

Yeah I feel that way about Utopia.

Last break between HD800 pairs was six years. We'll see.... :)

It fits my ears like a glove. But hey, who walks around with gloves in their ears.

I always thought it was a cheap-looking thing that was rejected from the set of Star Wars. That's what the pictures did for me. The physical reality is completely different. Pass me those gloves...

What about it is overrated? Vs what?
I have one for sale but I'm still a fan and don't believe it is...doesn't mean everyone has to like or love them.

We like them, though. Great headphones, something to stick to if one is a collector.

HD800 fits amazingly, HD650 (from memory— maybe two years since I last demoed one which is why I'm planning to borrow a friend's for an extended period of time) was... weird. Oddly stiff. Could be due to pads being somewhat compacted from use. I do admit I prefer the look of the 6XX series to the 800 as well, which makes me hope the 660s have at least some of the HD800's insane resolution and sense of space.

Also. If that actually is iFi Audio above (hello, iDSD fan here), shouldn't they be getting a MOT tag?

That's odd, I kept looking for it but didn't find it so I just posted the Canadian link.

At least pricing is slightly better.
