Got the chance to go listen to these Line Magnetic speakers at Gig Harbor Audio. They are monsters, much more attractive in person than I expected. The physicality of the horns was certainly something to experience.

I've been lusting over Line Magnetics speakers for a while. Their multiple warnings about counterfeits and lack of a US dealer list has left me just wishing though...

If you ever make your way to the NW, Gig Harbor Audio is definitely worth a stop. I would just let them know what you are interested in listening to and that you are swinging through so they can have it setup. I feel really spoiled that I am a 10-minute drive away from being able to just stop in and listen to ridiculous/$$$ setups while enjoying a cold beer at their place. Worth a follow on social media just for the copious amounts of speaker/gear porn. They are mainly into British Hi-Fi, so lots of Brit brands/equipment from them. It was listening to the Graham Chartwell LS3/5a at their place that convinced me I needed to get a pair for my home office.

Not one for the desktop, then :D

The speaker is about four times the mental image I had before seeing this picture.

(I guess "32 inch woofer" hadn't really sunk in)

Check this one, a custom cabinet for a pair of Tannoy 15' inch coaxial drivers, inspired by the Western Electric TA-7331-A baffle and using front horn loading. Basically almost open baffle with several opnenings on the back, in this case combined with front horn loading for the Coaxial driver.

    That's f'ing awesome, what a hero.
This is his blog, plenty of interesting stuff, the man likes Western Electric horns and tube gear, of course! |\/|

Gorgeous! I'm sure many of us could mate with that. The resulting hybrid creatures would make the world a better place too!

Tannoy 15" dual concentrics are the bees knees, if one can restore them properly, design proper filters and cabs. Too bad the drivers are super hard to get. Someone should build a big box monster around the Beyma CXA400FE, pretty sure it has a lot of potential.

    And what about this?
    https://maxonic.src-el-main.com/eng/products/unit/archives/3

40kg each driver, field coil, 8 ohms and 106db efficiency, 25hz-20khz frequency response (according to the manufacturer). 20k usd for 2 drivers (from Japan). Now that would be something worth the listen, imagine the cabinets above with this thing instead of the Tannoys! :D

Of course, Tannoy is a well known commodity, and this driver could suck in comparison, but 40kg each one and field coil...it has to have 11/10 sound quality with such a build.

Can't tell anything without impedance and on/off-axis AFR curves. Might be good, might be only fit for small ensemble jazz. Coax drivers are insanely hard to get right and so are compression tweeters.

Damn!!! That's the thickest and most overkill motor structure I have ever seen!.

I am wondering why it is so thick though if its field coil. No permanent magnet there...

Exactly! Maxonic doesn't provide frequency response or an impedance chart on their website (well, maybe if you buy a pair!), so is very hard to know. But I have a hard time thinking that someone who makes a driver like that will mess it up by a country mile. I wish I was millionaire so I could buy stuff like that and experiment (and play some Tupac and trash metal, to show those drivers who's the boss!!!)

Good question! Plenty of mystery about those drivers.
I don't know if you're aware, but there's an enthusiast with a blog and Facebook called "Project Ryu", and builds field coil drivers of all tipes, from 30 inch woofers to compression drivers.
