Dongle delight: Shanling UA5 for $199 and Cayin RU6 for $20 off, at $229 from Musicteck
Niche audience but the Jot-R is now $499 on Schiit's site: https://www.schiit.com/products/jotunheim-r.
Awesome that I bought a close-out one for $679 just over a week ago.
Edit 7/6/22: Schiit Audio generously and kindly refunded me the difference. I'm most grateful to them for doing so. I ought not to have posted the above before giving Schiit time to respond - thanks for the suggestion @Merrick, I'd emailed them - and I regret the fit of pique. It was good of them to issue the refund.
That's rough. The math is still screwed up on the site. You can buy a new one w/DAC for less than the closeout unit currently listed.
Edit: different DAC, I think? Nevermind.
If it’s within a week just email them and ask if they can refund you the difference.
AIO streamer+DAC in Canada: distributor clearance of the Volumio Primo Hi-Fi edition (ie including a lifetime Volumio Superstar subscription): $CAD 499, which is ~EUR 373 vs the EUR 649 price direct from Volumio.
Other AIO streamers for comparison: iFi Zen Stream price is $CAD 599, Pi2Design Mercury is $US 599. I haven't seen SQ comparisons of the Primo vs either of these, or heard any of the 3 myself - but it seems to me the Primo's internal DAC (optional; also has coax S/PDIF out) and included Superstar subscription could add significant value for people whose use case could include either or both.
Holy shit. HE6SEv2 for $499. The sale price is usually $699
bit at the end, as in
B-Stock LCD-5 for $3375
Mass Effect Legendary Edition free for Amazon Prime accounts
PJ Harvey Uh Huh Her demos for $15, and almost all of her albums on vinyl are currently on sale on Amazon.
For Elac fans the DB62 is on sale at Elac for $240 a pair. Ends today
The mighty 6XX for $199
Drop should release a KISS 'modded' 6XX
Did the 6XX go back to being made in Ireland? My Romanian isn't as smooth.
Did Sennheiser stop Romanian production?
The Sennheiser line was that the move to Romania would allow for modernization of production, if I recall. Reminds me of when Newcastle beer moved to the Netherlands...
Drop says Made in Romania
Complete Beethoven on CD from Naxos. The alternative is the similarly-priced Brilliant Classics set.* Naxos should have consistently better sound, if that matters to you. It should also have somewhat better liner notes.
* The previous Brilliant Classics set (2017) seems to have better performances than their slightly newer compilation (2019).
Nobody cares about sound here. Fake news.
