Just curious, but what amp are you using with your 650?

Nothing special, an Asgard 2. I think it drives the 650 fairly well. I prefer it over my Vali, felt like it made it a bit too laid back. I'm sure a Valhalla 2 will be a good upgrade, but I feel that it'll be better if I save for a while and shoot for something god tier.

It's been tempting me, yes. But I want to hold off for a substantial jump in SQ. I promised myself no more spinning my wheels for minor upgrades. :drunk:

    Studio then. :p

I've been thinking about either BW or CH as my top amp. Then I'll finish-er off with the Vali 2 for a little tube fun and see if I like it.

A CH with balanced inputs would be the dream! Going to save up for one after I purchase a Gungnir Multibit. Really hoping it won't be a one time only release.

Incorrect. The context of the acronym "CH" was "I've been thinking about either BW or CH as my top amp", which means that CH is an amp, not a website.

brencho: it is the Copperhead amp by Eddie Current. Look for some info about it in the Black Widow (this is the "BW" being referred to) thread.

I still wouldn't do it.. it's quite well known that if you *look* at Audeze drivers the wrong way, they'll fail.

But, when they don't fail they work great. Pre-fazors are some very nice upgrades for HD650 imo. Better bass, resolution, highs and even sound-stage.

If you think an LCD is better than an HD6XX in terms of resolution, you aren't fueling the HD6XX very well.

I sold my 650's, right now I'm going by the 600's and my Lyr 2 - shouldn't that be enough amping? I would not know what kind of spec would bring more resolution - you tell me.

I'm an HD600 (well, er, HD580) user as well.

At the risk of derailing this thread... Regarding the HD6XX (or even the HD800 and probably HD700), your amplification isn't much of a concern as to whether it's "enough" as much as whether it's a "good match". I certainly don't have the most experience on this forum, but I've had the HD580 in my arsenal since the beginning and it continues to amaze me how picky it is. At its worst, it's a very neutral headphone and quite boring. At its best, it's still neutral but dynamic, highly resolving, and extremely engaging.

Orthos, on the other hand, aren't as picky. They just want to make sure you have "enough".

FWIW, my experience with the HD580 has been limited to these amps (ignoring the ones nobody cares about): Bottlehead Crack+Speedball, Valhalla 1, Valhalla 2, Vali, Vali 2, Magni, and Project Ember. For me, the Valhallas extracted the most resolution out of the headphone while also expanding the stage. Crack+Speedball and Ember are both very punchy and engaging as well, but not as much resolution (to my ears). Vali 2 is a very great compromise. Magni was fairly boring (no experience with Magni 2).

Anyway, feel free to ask more in the HD600 thread. And welcome to the forum!

Make sure you don't get rid of those headphones though, they might surprise you. :)

I just posted on the HD600-thread with lots of praise. I'm NOT getting rid of the 600's anytime soon. Maybe never :) They aren't perfect, but they are just great for the price and for what they do.
