Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is releasing May 8th. Might not be an instant buy for me but I'll definitely pick it up sometime this year.

I really need to pick up the first PoE. Just finished Tyranny, which had many awesome ideas, yet lacked a bit of depth and pacing in the latter stages was kinda borked. Now I'm playing Divinity: Original Sin, which has one of the best combat designs I've seen lately in a cRPG.

I enjoyed PoE a lot, just be aware the combat can get a bit stale by the end ... very much a game you play for the writing.

The combat in PoE isn't any more stale than the combat in Tyranny though, so if he can play and enjoy Tyranny he can definitely play and enjoy PoE. But I agree PoE is game you play primarily for the writing, characters and world building.

BTW - If anyone likes a well crafted story and don't mind walking simulators I highly recommend What Remains of Edith Finch: https://store.steampowered.com/app/501300/What_Remains_of_Edith_Finch/

It's won multiple awards for writing and story and I think it's well deserved.

My GF is currently playing WRoEF, the graphics look really nice and some of the interaction mechanics are really well thought out.

As for what I'm playing right now - Warframe. Yeah, it's a horrible time sink, but the movement scheme is one of the best I've encountered in a game lately. I wonder when I'll get sick of it.

I love the combat in Divinity OS1 & 2. The way you use the environment combined with magic/elements to your advantage is just genius.

All of this talk about PoE and all I can think about is playing Path of Exile again.

I'm currently hooked on Frostpunk, a game where you govern "the last city on Earth." It's a great city builder if you don't mind getting frustrated from time to time. It can be quite depressing though because of some heavy moral choices you have to make, so not really a game to relax after a tough day at work. Aside from that, this game is an easy recommendation.

Destiny 2 is the early subscription game for the month's humble subscription bundle. $12 subscription gets you a bunch of games but you don't know what until next month, but Destiny 2 is guaranteed and you get it now. If you subscribe for 12 months at once you get 1 free, but you can just do a one month thing and then cancel. Pretty good deal if you have a friend or two you want to play Destiny with, but that game died for me personally quite fast. Also I'm pretty sure you'll still have to buy the expansions separately, so there's some hidden costs down the road there.

tl;dr- Destiny 2 for $12 now, bunch more random games in a month for free. Can cancel subscription early and still get everything. Money goes to charity so you can pretend that you're good people if you want.

One of my favorite games of all time, the first PC game I really got absorbed into.

If you play it, get the unofficial patch and a high res texture mod/pack. It's amazing how good it still looks after 20 years.

Anyone have fighting stick experience/preferences? I am getting tired of using inadequate D-pads. My budget is as little as possible, with a hard cap at $100. I was going to go "cheap" with one of the kits on Amazon, but once I add in decent materials and tools for the box, I was looking at $50 which is in the range of something like the 8bitdo N30 stick that has an added bonus of bluetooth connectivity. Neither option uses real arcade hardware, so I would have to add another $40ish to get some Sanwa components. So I am mired in indecision as to which route to go. I don't know how bad the stock stuff is on these controllers. It has been ages since my arcade glory days and my reaction times are definitely crap compared to back then, so I don't know if real arcade components would really matter at this point.

GOG is having a big sale right now. A few games I've wanted are discounted 85% and only cost $1.20.
