If you have one and are not using it I would love to hear this in my system to know if its the dac for me. I would of course pay shipping and insurance both ways
    best,
    Josh

The GS just has a different ROM chip if I remember correctly, don't think Unison has anything to do with it. Though they may have installed the ROM chip when they upgraded it to Unison and he doesn't know it?

I think you can get the chip from Schiit for ~$35 if needed. BTW, great price...

The Yggdrasil GS is basically the OG A1 version with updated firmware. Schiit used the old and or remaining A1 cards in their inventory and used it up in the GS iteration, but with updating the firmware (via rom card) accordingly.

Whether it had Unison or not was independent of that. The Yggdrasil GS that I sold to @Aklegal had Unison with it.

Yeah @Josh Schor the GS firmware/ROM should work fine with Unison. The “no Unison” thing for GS came from when Schiit was selling GS units still - they had to have a way to disincentivize people from (at the time, prices for upgrades have since changed where this wouldn’t make sense) getting a “cheaper” A2 by buying a GS and then sending it back to have Schiit install Unison and/or A2 in it. This was also back when they only allowed Schiit factory install for Yggdrasil DAC cards, and maybe also Unison? I don’t remember.

Anyway, tl;dr Unison will work fine with GS.

That makes it GS. Getting the case open is the hard part with the non + Yggdrasil (19 screws I think?). The chip itself is very easy to put in once you have access to the boards. Old chip pops right up and new one pops in.

Not too bad to get it in, just search purr1n's Yggdrasil usb install and he shows how to open up the DAC. I opened up the A2 I bought in 20 mins going very slowly. The "Friend" I bought the A1 cards from included the GS rom as well, but to my surprise the A2 already had the GS rom installed, that's how i ended up with an extra GS rom. If you get the A1, open it up first and check to see what rom it has before worrying about getting a GS rom.

If anyone has an A1 OG with Unison USB and is interested in a trade I have a Almarro 318B being upgraded with jensen caps, power supply bypasses and a TKD 100khom pot, its in progress and sound great.

You can add Unison for an extra $100. The option is under "Version" Gen 5 or Unison.

@Josh Schor For $1799 with Unison, this is an absolute steal. You won’t find a used GS for much cheaper than this, plus you get the updated chassis and a warranty. If you really want to try the GS, you could evaluate it within the 15-day return window. Since the A1/GS cards are already fully baked, you wouldn’t need an extended warm-up period to reach full performance.
