Doing some changes on my headphone setup, well mostly getting rid of it due to lack of use. If I want it again I know where to get it.

Item 1:


Focal Elear with Clear Pads and backup Elex Pads and original Elear Pads: With the Clear Pads used and the backup Elex Pads that were recently released by Drop, make your Elear sound like an Elex with a much lower price point. I got this used pair from @crenca after he blessed it with his farts. I later purchased a third-party cable for the Elear since the stock Elear cable is too long and fat for my needs. Comes in its original box.

$300 shipped for everything. If you don't care for the looks, this is the cheapest way to get an Elex soundwise. SOLD MOFOS!


Item 2:



HiFiMan HE400S: Complete in its box, I threw out the stock cable since it was busted due to shit quality. Replacement cable I got from Amazon makes it better. Sounds fine, older HiFiMan model.

I got this for free from @ext1, but I had it ship to me by FedEx. The shipping cost from Korea to US was $250. We both didn't realize that, but I paid for it since this was not ext1's mistake but mine.

$50 shipped for everything. A basic HiFiMan Planar, not offensive sound but more budget tier.


Items 3 and 4:



SW51+: It is the shit, that's all I have to say. YMO name is on the back of the unit since I am the original owner. Comes with stock tubes plus 5x backup tubes of the same stock tube that are included with the SW51+. Also I will include a pair of 2 x Siemens EF184 / 6EJ7 that are matched and Telefunken labeled. I really prefer the sound of the SW51+ with the stock tubes. Condition IMO is 8/10.

Two minor issues:

• Left tube socket has a minor loose connector. This means if you fully put a tube in the left tube socket, it will not make fully contact and thus it will not get any power. I solved this issue by putting very little tin foil in the socket to fully make connection.
• Ground cable can get loose in the unit. When the ground wire gets loose inside the amp, the amp will not power on. You have to open the unit and put the ground/red wire back on the screw that holds the AC Connector to the amp. You also have to make sure the nut that holds the ground wire to the AC Connector screw is tight or else the ground wire will not make any contact with the amp. Easy problem to fix.

With those issues above, amp works super fine. If you hear any noise from one or both channels, slightly move the tubes where they are center on the sockets and sound goes away. Amp is good for first time buyers who know how to work things or someone who wants a backup unit that has YMO's body hair on the unit.

Massdrop Airist R-2R DAC: Yes it is the DAC with drama from a few years back due to the rip off design. If you use Toslink/COAX then this unit sounds excellent for the price. USB works fine but it is gooie/warm like my ball sack. Comes with everything that came with the unit and its original box. Since this is an "old-school" R2R sound I recommend using this on neutral amps. SW51+ and Airist is a match made in heavy for a cheaper setup. I thought the DAC had issues with Coax dropouts, but the issue was the table I had the DAC on was wobbyville. As long as you put DAC on a table that is solid you will not have any issues with Coax dropouts. I put the BF2 on the wobbyville table and I do get dropouts on BF2 coax. Not the fault of the DAC, but the fault on my table. I got this from @yotacowboy when he was hooking me up with some crack (audio gear).

Without bombarding the thread with off-topic, for now IEMs but I still have my HD stuff when I want to be in the mood. I still have my BF2. Doing some adjustments nothing more.

Appreciate the call out, but I missed it. That’s ok though, I usually specify my gear comes from a YMO-free home. Some strange smells emanate from that guy….

 

Upon closer inspection, it appears YMO has upgraded my old Airist to the vaunted Cat Hairist Mk. 2 version.

 

I'm in for the HE400 if no one else is beating down the door for it..dB
