I admire his passion, and his forthrightness is sometimes refreshing, but personally I feel the ableist and homophobic comments stepped outside of reasonable boundaries. Dude needs to chill a little bit... but the mods know best.
Most subgenres of metal still lie within pretty strict and conservative aesthetic and material constraints, most of which are self-imposed.
Guitars, drums, bass, vocals, equal temperament with minor and diminished tonality, metric timescales. Not a whole lot of variation there. Very few boundaries have been pushed.
Metal doesn't really stand out as particularly progressive in terms of western music history. There's a reason why there's a strong correlation between fans of Baroque music and metal... because it follows similar patterns, at a different speed with different instruments.
It's easy to get into because it's familiar, not because it's novel.
Edit: I'm taking this way too seriously. That image is hilarious.
Send all your weirdest shit, I would love to be proven wrong. I stopped listening to metal in 2012 but maybe it's time to come back with some fresh content.
@E_Schaaf - I think I was more agreeing/teasing. That artist has been known for fusing black metal, baroque and breakcore, primarily. I was enjoying your description of baroque->metal mainly.
Cooling jets is good. Sometimes it's difficult to distinguish real aggression against groups versus insane Hunter s Thompson hallucinations and hyperbole but point taken
