Do you have a Koss PortaPro? If not, get one and play Prince's "Purple Rain." Then look at all of your audio gear and think about what audio system makes you dance and sing for a 50 Dollar (or less) headphone and one album on Spotify or Tidal.

@Deep Funk I do not. But always been curious.

And now I've read the Shortest Way amp thread. Send help please.

When I was almost flat broke and out of job while debt piled on (2015), the PortaPro and KSC75 were my main headphones. The PortaPro kept a smile on my face. Broke or rich, keep a PortaPro.

Since we're talking budget Koss I'm gonna be a doofus and recommend you get ears on a Pioneer SE-EX9 if you can. Long OOP though, and not the most durable, but I liked em more than the PortaPros I've tried. Sacrilege perhaps.

Found some squiggles on HF years back, happy I saved these because they're gone from the thread now.

Great to rock out to, but not the most comfy. In hindsight looks like X00 bass with HP-3 aggro mids, recessed high mids, and less jagged treble. No wonder I loved them.

I'm afraid being the official gear master is not doing you any favors when it comes to impulse control :P

PortaPro was my eye opener to headphones in the 80s when my dad bought a set for the Marantz 2270. There's something special about them.

@Skyline the problem is that I'm intrinsically very curious.

I have a set of Thinksound On2 I bought off Massdrop for $90; might just listen to those for a while.

Funny how it's always after the NEXT purchase.

What you need is a plan, a strategy, for whatever you'd like to achieve with audio gear.

Let friends loan you stuff to satisfy your curiosity. Buy things that align with your goals.
