There's a limit to bad luck, but from memory this guy cranked stuff to 11 when I was listening to his gear in a store demo. Maybe that's part of it, but also seems like the design could be improved upon??? How are the newer kids different from Elear?
The headband on my Elears broke, inquired to support what a replacement headband would cost out of pocket since I didn't have warranty. They told me the headband is a non-replacable part. Wat.
Buy for the sound, not the customer service. If you want any warranty on it, ask your dealer.
Haha, I'm a used market dude just because it's cheaper. Fingers crossed the Klipsches stay strong cuz aftermarket for them is horrible as well, it seems.
Yeah, I got these Elears used as well so I was pretty SOL as far as getting any service related stuff went. Not sure about their other products but was very surprised to see a $1K+ product (at the time) have such poor build quality and support.
Nuisance aside they still charge boatloads for out-of-warranty repairs. Had a guy get a $2200 quote for a Utopia headband repair. I can't legally say exactly what dealer cost on sealed pairs is, but it makes the repair quote even more ridiculous. Not to mention the rattling every unit has in the sub when you turn it up. Ew.
Shit, I remember that Utopia headband quote! This is blatantly stupid really, and not just for the reason that prices are way too highly inflated— they either expect people to swallow this or are that desperate to push more unit sales.
Haha, didn't think to test sub-bass heavy stuff when I demoed, might try next time for gits and shizzles.
And yup, @FallingObjects. At least Klipsch offers replacement of whole earcups... for $450 I think? Well could be worse. Not sure if that offer extends to used buyers, but honestly I'm genuinely tempted to pick up another (probably used) HP-3 so I can try permanent mods to tame the treble on my current set (or hypothetical second one, depends on condition).
So, my Elex's right side recently gave out. I took care of them and I can't think of an instance where I may have put them down too hard (I have a desk mat by the way). Unfortunately, these were purchased used. Not sure how much it will cost to have them repaired by Focal but I'm sure it won't be cheap.
Sorry to hear, @Phantaminum, that sucks ass. Yeah er, I doubt it'll be super affordable given the $2200 headband quote for Utopia, but luck willing it won't be more than half MSRP? Maybe contact Drop instead of Focal. Not sure if they'll be able to help but worth giving a shot?
This is exactly why I cannot get rid of my Senns. Focal and HFM just don't engender much faith. My Elex's stock balanced cable shit the bed a few weeks ago.
It's such a contrast that I was able to refurbush my (much-)used HD800 with new pads and band padding at a low cost, and good to know that the vital organs are available for transplant without breaking the bank.
