Idk rumors says 4090 this year and twice as fast… wait a bit and you can get 3090’s really cheap once mining cards flood the market. Some have transferable warranty.
Zotac 3090 available for $1000 now. A good deal if you can use all 24gb memory.Rumor has it 4000 series are being delayed because of too many 3000 series produced.
If I were in the GPU market right now I would be waiting, but I never chase absolute top performance and I like to keep cards multiple generations if they work right. Prices got so inflated that they really need to come down more to make sense close to the end of a generation. Yes, even with inflation.
I think the prevailing wisdom is if you’re looking at a midrange or below card now’s a decent enough time to buy, but I wouldn’t be buying anything strong than a 3070ti till the 40 series is out towards the end of the year.
4 Rumors I have:
1. 4090 looking really fast on Twitter.
2. Nvidia trying to cut some 40 production due to crypto-winter.
3. 4090 coming this year, but lesser ones next year.
4. GDDR6X VRAM on 3090 and 3080 could be damaged by heat, especially 3090, because half of its VRAM on the back doesn't have proper cooling. So second-handed mining cards can be risky-ish.
So I don't know... Can't decide between 4080 and 3090... I guess 4080 would be faster yet pricier? But yea, 24G VRAM on 3090 looks good to me for CGI, VFX and editing.
From general comments I’ve seen it seems like now is the time to buy 3000 series if you are going for that. Nvidia had halted production on whatever 3xxx card they can to so they don’t have excess when 4xxx comes out.
In terms of price and availability it won’t get much better than now for new cards
I won't buy used for something like this. Originally wanted to "splurge" on a 3070, but prices and availability killed that. Now that I see its performance on games I want to play with the eye candy on, I think 3080 perf is min. Given likely availability, prob looking at a year or more before the equiv 4000 is realistic. Hence debate. 1070 still works, just not amazeballs.
