I’m going to post something very public with an image of an upside down salute and couldn’t find anything online to assure me I wasn’t saying “fuck the military” or something.
Image result for upside down salute meaning
The British Army developed a salute with the palm facing outwards, also used by the Royal Air Force. The Royal Navy, however, adopted a version with the palm facing downwards, thought to be because many men working on ships had dirty palms and to display them was disrespectful.
It is silly, but also because the salute is a sign of respect, you are somewhat disrespecting, but in a fun goofy way and only to the person you are saluting. Unless you are doing that TO the military, it is not disrespectful.
You should probably ask claritas, any odd salute is at least 50% likely to be a nazi thing. There was a straight arm pointing down thing in France that was a nazi thing, for example.
Pretty sure it's a reactionary carpetbagger salute. For example, used to salute a shady TV "doctor" who promotes health products that don't work - who moves from NJ to PA to try to become the next PA Senator - and says things like Crudite
I need to make sure this salute doesn't have malicious meanings because I am posting an image of me doing this salute to a social media page for a chronic illness as part of a spoof post of a Star Trek "Captains Log" and the image is meant to be mocking/goofing about serious army/star fleet stuff.
It will reach tens of thousands of people so I want to make sure I'm not saying "go Nazis!" or "fuck the military!" or anything that would offend. I figure you sleuths are great people to ask about this since I can't fid a definitive answer on google.
