If its MiniLp it is worth the novelty, outside of that SHM and a few others are neat too. I have one bluespec cd and I dislike it quite a bit. You can read about some on trackingangle by Malachi Lui
I'm sick of the collections market. I just get my FLACs from "sources" of those first press Japanese CDs, and this is from the guy who has a bunch of these first-pressed Japanese CDs in boxes in my old bedroom at my dad's house.
Some of those cd's have masters i can't find on streaming services or bonus tracks. I'm an album guy and it always throws me off if tracks are missing.
like Gaz said some of those miniLP and SHM CDs sound pretty cool, especially for classic and psychedelic rock. they have a funky EQ that is less obvious than Japanese vinyl but still there, it's flattering for some recordings. but I cannot fathom paying more than $20-30 at most for a CD.
I assume you’re talking about early 80s Japanese releases like the Black Triangles. Many of them do sound excellent. Several of the masterings were released in other countries without the BT branding and cost way less on the used market. Use Steve Hoffman Forums for research on this.
