Is it not that we first ask?

    "What is it?"
    "Why does it exist?"
    "How does it work?"

    Then the critical bit starts.

Marketing claims + specifications + experiences = makes sense OR non-sense.

If non-sense criticism, research and some mockery. Some people specialise in mockery.

Hate depends per person. You really have to be specific here. So please, this is not a hate forum.

Exceptions: the Chord could be good after all, wait and see while you adopt the socratic attitude...

Who kind of feels they should get this just to see @Judeus eat his pubes? I kind of think that is worth $600 alone when you add that to bargain bin.

The price is reasonable. No reason to hate on Chord. Sony released PHA-2 and PHA-3 in the $600-$1000 range as well.

I fully understand (within the limits of knowledge) the reasoning behind FPGA vs. dedicated DAC chip debate, but let's not shit on Chord before we give it a chance at least?

BUT, the styling is ... a total WTF moment.

I thought the price was decent too, especially for a Chord product. The black box with the tacky Mojo printed across though...

Just wanted to let all Bay Area SBAFs that the following event if you are interested will include the MOJO and DAVE will be at Audio High in Mountain View, CA (YOU HAVE TO RSVP for this event so please keep that in mind):

    Hugo TT Races Ahead

The remarkable Hugo portable DAC/headphone amp opened the eyes and ears of a lot of new customers to the digital expertise of Chord Electronics. If that's what a portable device is capable of, people wondered, what could a full-size component do for your stereo system? The Hugo TT (Table Top) answers that question. With its bigger form comes even better performance, balanced outputs, larger batteries (with F1-style supercapacitors!), and a remote control. Whether you're after the highest performance DAC or even a full digital preamp, you need to test drive the Hugo TT.

Good Things Come In Small (Estelon) Packages

You don't have to go Extreme to experience what makes Estelon so special. We'll be pairing their more compact XA speakers in our theater with Chord electronics so you can hear just how much sound they can deliver. Careful choices in form and materials for both cabinet and driver lead to performance that belies their size — something essential for many Bay Area living spaces.

    [IMG]Now with added Mojo!
We're very excited to add one more attraction to this event, the newly announced Chord Mojo.

This newest addition to the Chord DAC family brings their renowned audio performance to a new level of portability and affordability - and you'll even be able to quiz the mind behind Mojo about how they did it.

    Meet Rob Watts

The designer of Chord's amazing DACs

If you've been to previous Chord Electronics events at Audio High you'll have already met their founder, John Franks. So for this event we also wanted to introduce you to Rob Watts, the man behind their DAC designs including the multi-award winning Hugo and Hugo TT products.

Rob has many years of experience designing chips for a variety of manufacturers, but recently the astonishing success of the Hugo products and general growth in the personal audio market has led him to focus purely on Chord products. To this end he will bringing his new ne plus ultra Chord DAC, the DAVE or Digital to Analogue Veritas in Extremis.

Given our location in the heart of Silicon Valley, we know many of you will relish the opportunity to pick the brains of such an important figure in audio chip design, so be sure to RSVP.

    Meet Alfred Vassilkov

    Estelon's founder and lead engineer

Estelon company founder and chief designer, Alfred Vassilkov. will be making a special trip to the US for this event, so don't miss this opportunity to meet him. At the heart of Estelon speakers is Alfred's lifetime of dedication, constant curiosity, passion for solving technological challenges, and 30 years of experience in speaker design. It's no surprise that his deep knowledge, experience, and dedication has led a relatively young company to make a huge impact in the world or premium audio.

Apple fetches high prices for sleek design.

Chord fetches high prices for weird design.

Both stand out and deliver unique experiences. The consumer decides, however big or small the market segment may be. At least the portable units look practical enough. That matters for portable audio gear.

This forum was born in a time where hating on every Chord products is the norm. I really enjoyed the QuteHD paired with a LPSU. I didn't care for the Hugo, like most of us, but at least it sounded different from the pack of Chinese-made Sabre crap (I don't want to dismiss the Chinese in a general sense here, I'm an Audio-gd guy.) and had interesting qualities.
If the Mojo sounds like the early posters describe (less clinical/cold than the Hugo), then it could actually justify its price and be a good alternative to similarly priced portable DAC/Amps (read iFi Micro iDSD).

well said. If Hugo has been priced at the same level than Mojo, things would have been different. What makes us cringe is the 2500$ price tag and all what crowds of fanboys claimed everywhere ( For example that Hugo competes with Hi end desktop rig for something like the HD800.. that's pure BS)

"Despite Mojos ultra compact form, Mojo takes just four hours to fully charge and can deliver up to ten hours continuous use. But, thanks to Mojos separate Micro USB charging port, you can play and charge at the same time. External power banks can be used to charge Mojo on the move so long as they have a 1 amp output."

4 hours to play 10 hours?! RLY?! Are they proud of it? o_O
