I have no doubt that GUTB is inclined to believe more expensive things or more exotic technologies sound better, but I nonetheless reach the same conclusion although through different reasoning.

 

Whilst @GUTB 's comments on those Head-Fi threads are twattish in the extreme, honestly reading back on his comments in this thread they don't seem so outrageous imho. Clearly his opinions are contrary to the vast majority, but is that a reason to extract them from the main thread? I mean, he's even suggesting he may give them another try. Perhaps we're better off trying to alter his approach rather than muting him?

 

Isn't this forum all about disproving this theory? I could have sworn that music and sound is all subjective. I am not trying to discredit your opinion but you come into our home and shit on our beliefs with your "HF" mentality. You can't expect us to not shit on you back. I would advise you to take some time and familiarize yourself with what we are about here. Maybe check out the "About Us" section at the bottom of the forum.

Edit: I have to agree with the posts that happened before I posted mine. You should take some time to listen to the cans on a more defined setup. Perhaps with a dedicated headphone amp and dac instead of a home receiver? I don't have much experience with them but I have heard that most receiver headphone ports do very strange things to the sound.

If he isn't new here then why is he not acting like it? If he is truly a seasoned lurker then he would understand everything that I talked about in my post and would follow forum edict a little better would he not?

I can echo this when it comes to the Grados. For some songs I really loved the treble spike (with kicks and screams), and with more balanced cans suddenly things were seeming bland and uninviting. Until of course I realized that the Grado treble was piercing my ears (as above, getting physical, with post-traumatic ringing), and that best was ridding of 'em forever and never get within 1 mile of them. I imagine if someone has such sound as a 'reference point', then something more balanced may indeed be perceived as dull and subpar...

 

Boring? I bump everything from fancy audiophile stuff to horribly mastered gangster rap and crappy trance/techno on the daily with my hd600. After all these years, they still floor me. The bass is not going to slap you in the face but they are not bass deficient.

 

Clearly you missed the memo man. USB is a garbage connection for your source. You need to bypass it completely. Go check out the Lynx AES16e.

I have been in this hobby long enough to experience my "f**k it" moment. What is this "f**k it" moment you may ask? Well it is simply the moment when you have been disappointed by marketing and rumours for so long that the words "HiFi" and any variations like "MidFi" or "Lo(w)Fi" become meaningless.

Have fun continuing your existence as a sheep following the marketing B.S. of guru's and enterprises. Enjoy spending money without actually thinking for yourself.

In audio something sounds good for its purpose. In case it does not sound good it is an issue with the user, the audio component itself (headphone/speaker) or the audio system in question (many variables). In the worst case scenario the audio component is simply a bad unit, think of the Beats Solo HD (fart-cannon headphone) or a Bose unit that falls apart rapidly despite its ridiculous price tag. (f**k Bose and its bad build quality practices.)

If you want to stay a stupid consumer, you know what enjoy it. If you want to learn more and develop yourself stop believing in this concept called "HiFi".

I shall now ignore you. Wallow in your consumer existence until you become broke and then discover how f'ing good a cheap KSC75 is.
