After your last POST, I’m almost sure that you suffer from mixed headache. Migraine plus tension headache. There are some folks that also have cluster headache. THIS one seems to be the worst, and the treatment is to smell peppermint or inhale pure oxigen. Most of them can be triggered by nerve compression teeth grinding and muscles tension with all other triggers that friends has listed.
Sorry to tell, but this kind of problem don’t appear in tests or samples. People do CT, MR and PET scan just to search for life treating problems.
I have been study migraines since Med school and the near disease to explain its cause is epilepsy . That’s why epilepsy and migraine share the same medications to prevent them. That’s why @Thad E Ginathom remembered his LSD exxxxxperiences! Two years ago I was in a supermarket and had a major migraine. I saw so many lights, distorting sounds and weird smells. It was fun for 20 minutes. After that, the pain started and I was suffering. Hope we never have headache again. LoL

This is a mild problem but given how it relates to my hearing I'm a bit concerned.

Bit of background, my ears were kinda fucked when I had to interview a few celebrities for work at my old job and it turned out that there was going to be a full-on hard rock concert later on that I was very much unprepared for. Long story short I was a bit too close to the speakers when they did a sound check and I'm pretty sure they leapt right over the 100dB mark with room to spare during the concert proper. I had to stick around to snap photos and somehow talk to people while all that was going on, and having been caught completely by surprise I had no hearing protection with me. Sad thing is that it was a local group that I really liked (sample song below) that left my ears ringing loudly for maybe a day and change afterwards.

From then on I've had mild tinnitus and have cursed McCormick (yes, the spice people) at every available opportunity; the concert was to advertise some new shitty instant-mix meal product that tastes passable at best. This was back in 2016 or 2015, can't recall off the top of my head.

Anyway, earlier today my ears were feeling slightly stuffy, likely as a result of a mild cold I'm coming down with, so I tried doing the whole "pinch your nose and blow gently to try and 'loosen up' your eardrums" routine when I noticed there was a pretty loud whooshing sound in my left ear similar to this: . It was repeatable for a time just a couple minutes ago but now that I'm trying to replicate it, I get nothing.

The ringing's always been moderately louder in my left ear than in my right (though thankfully still far from "moderately loud" in itself), and the eustachian tube on that side has been feeling a bit congested for a few weeks now. I plan to consult an otolaryngologist sooner rather than later, but would be interested in hearing whether anyone here's experienced the same and how that's turned out.

Sorry to hear about your condition @Lyer25

The sound you’re referring to can be replicated if you do the nose pinch thing very forcefully, my guess is it’s the tube being held open and perhaps air passing through.

Wait until your cold is gone and you’ve had a chance to clear your eustachian tubes. To do this swallow repeatedly, you’ll notice your ears popping, if not then the tubes are blocked and you need to just keep doing it. Keep it up over days, even weeks. The other thing to do is fill a wash bowl with hot water, hot enough for there to be steam but not singe your lungs, and breathe that in for 20 minutes with a towel covering your head and the bowl. It’ll help those tubes to open up when they’re being more stubborn.

You’ll be back to plain old tinnitus in no time. At which point the best thing you can do is be calm and ignore it as best you can. If it disturbs you at night when things are quiet run a fan or some white, pink, or brown noise to drown it out. I have heard of some audio therapies that run the inverse frequency to one’s tinnitus or some such but I’ve not delved into that topic myself.

Thanks! Yeah it seems like the best option for now would be to wait until the cold's gone before I do anything too extreme. Kinda sucks since this is the time of year I have a near-perpetual stuffy nose, but them's the breaks :p

Oh nah, just loads of rain and the fact that the weather swings pretty quickly between the mid-30s and low/mid-20s nowadays, never mind the fact that 22°C is already pretty cold (compared to what I'm used to etc etc :p).

Climate change is real, folks. The weather's borked to hell and I'd like to somehow give it a bit of percussive maintenance.

Doesn't help that there's some remodelling going on and we've got an absolute mountain of sand and gravel piled in the front yard for construction. Makes it harder to breathe.

    Sounds like hell, mate.

The weather swings happen to me too this time of year. Pretty nasty. I just keep up with some exercise. Do you?

@Jerry I have a bench press and a treadmill at home that get some use. Less use now than a few months ago, I should probably change that a bit.

Much as I'd love to run out in the open... smog :))

@David De Lucena hmm, otitis media might be a thing at this point, that'd explain stuff. I'll go check those out, and thanks again! Definitely helped :)

I used to think it was just me being (even more) stupid, but mentioned symptoms to doctor one day, and she said, "That's sinusitis!" Wow, for years I never knew. It seems that, for some people sinusitis can be a terrible, painful affliction, whereas for others, it just feels like, well... being a bit thick!

It was easy to fix. But there was/is still a noticeable amount of residual stupidity.

Exactly. Sinusites after a cold it’s almost a rule. Some people do have chronic sinusitis with mild symptoms. @Lyer25 must go to a doctor to see if he needs antibiotics

So i'm still tweaking my diet and it's getting better and better. Went a bit hardcore and gone the carnivore diet route and it works for me. Been on it for three weeks now, it's a small step from keto so the transition was not hard. Gastrointestinal issues have passed(hurr hurr), mood, allergies and focus are improved and i sleep better and quicker. Athletic performance has seen noticeable improvement as well.
It's basically anything animal based goes, quite simple and satiating.
Good video on the topic of gut health:

I wouldn't notice if my athletic ability improved.
