Partakers in 22 person X-mas, 300 person former-Disney-star-in-Calabasas, or 12 person friends-of-The-Governor parties piss me off more as they are probably a lot more responsible for the spread of the virus than anti-maskers. The problem with these people is that they aren't as visible in their denial of the pandemic.

In my town the mask thing is enforced by retail employees kinda half-assedly. It depends on the business. One of the regional gas station chains doesn't enforce it. My daughter works at a home improvement / hardware chain and they'll kick you out if you are asked to put one on and don't comply. But you can wear one so that nose and/or mouth are exposed and no one cares. Basically most retailers just want to be able to say that people are wearing one, regardless if it's correctly or not. But our state has flipped back and forth between mask mandates and suggested mask use.

Yes, pack a lunch to go from 2nd to 3rd. There is an aftermarket short shift mod available for those it bothers.

Amen - my rule is 3 yrs and lower than 30,000mi (with AWD). Last 3 vehicles have cost under $25k. One lasted for 200,000mi before retirement, one is currently at 143,000mi (and should hit 200k) and the third is currently at 100k miles (it won't make 200,000miles, it's the lemon of the bunch).

Buying anything new is purely for show.

I gotta say I thought the inauguration was incredibly well done and tasteful and was often quite emotional for me. Seeing such reverence for Democratic traditions and norms after the insurrection was quite moving. Even Lady Gaga gave a very traditional and heartfelt performance underscoring the need to return to American principles and Democracy.

It seems first order of business is immigration policy. Among those is halt to the $15B wall. And as such, is this all spent? Are we going to see this funding go back from where it came from. Like maybe 2/3 go back to the military funding it originally came from?

Ask me how many fucks I give about your opinion here. The world has suffered a huge amount under 45 and it's incredibly cathartic to kick him in the ass on the way out.

Wife's idea was we would buy a TV just to watch it. Yes, it was well done, yes Biden's speech was super, yes Lady Gaga was great (loved the dress).

After 6th Jan helped to make the unthinkable doable, I'm sure many of us had our worries. Glad to see them unfounded, at least for this day. Sad that the security was necessary, glad it was done.

As for the other fellow... let him drown in his own orange stuff (it probably is orange).

I'd rank Obama 1 as the most emotional speech (And hey, the world thought we were getting rid of something bad back then, poor innocent fools that we were) but, sadly, He didn't follow through so well. Let's see how this guy does...

I give it 3 months at most before TDS on the left is fully replaced by BDS on the right. While I continue to be entertained by my own increasing level of apathy.

I just don't agree with the whole "zero fucks given" mentality in general. It's part of the problem no matter what you believe in.

agreed in general but the Twitter comment wasn’t respectful to begin with. It wasn’t a point of view but mocking of sorts.

What will happen to the media, post Trump business bonanza?

    https://human-as-media.com/2020/10/20/the-trump-bump-in-the-news-media-commodifighting-trump/

Excellent article on "post journalism" (advocacy over objectivity) from IMO one of the most insightful analysts of our moment.

    https://www.city-journal.org/journalism-advocacy-over-reporting

Hopefully political humor will improve. The Trump era has been the least funny era of my life, probably because conformist moral hysteria is inhibiting to humor.

Larger-than-life characters rise and fall, comedians, satirists and commentators go on for ever. The targets may be less offensive, the response might be a little more gentle, but, be assured that criticism will be made and piss will be taken.

The media are not planning any "post Trump." I think they are already pissed with Dorsey for cancelling Trump Twitter account.
They do not get their daily fix of outrage in the morning and that causes severe withdrawal symptoms.
But just in case, CNN announced that Trump has a secret army and the role of the media would be to defend the country against this army for the next four years.. Like if the idea that Trump can have secret anything is not funny enough.

Oh, they will find a way. Already seeing subtle jabs in the soundbites and headlines.

Just wait until Biden cannot achieve 100M vaccinations in 100 days (Biden's call, not the media's). The boogeyman Trump will be there to blame - when it's not Trump- but the American people (States wanting to do their own thing, massive bureaucracy in states such as CA*, anti-vaxxers, COVID deniers, malaise - people not waiting to wait 4 hours in line at a country fairgrounds, lack of transportation for older people, lack of time-off work for younger people, selfish people [therapists who see people via zoom] who want to jump in front of the line, etc.)

The blame the last President thing in recent times seems to have started with Obama and accelerated under Trump. I'm sure the media would love to participate.

    * As of today, CA has administered 37% of its allocated doses. Compared to other high population states as such as CT, LA, and TX which are around 61%-56%. Having dealt with CA state institutions, I am not surprised. But you know who the media is going to blame.
