Don't want to belabor this because the bad behavior did happen 11 years ago. From one news article, it would appear that Neil took the fall for his dad. I actually admire that.

People change and learn from dumb stuff. But man, karma in the material world sure is a bitch. It's not like Jesus who can forgive and totally wipe the slate clean. But even then, I'm pretty sure that Jesus was only referring to heavely matters.

Since this got its own thread now I was actually holding off posting this:

+1 to the club that thinks shit that happened a decade ago isn't necessarily representative of who a person is now. I did appreciate neilvg's savvy for what it was, but I found the personality was somewhat abrasive. And hell, this is coming from someone who tolerates the mods and admins here :p

Whatever happened with the SEC business is none of mine, but that they somehow got themselves entangled in that is... just sad.

Looks like yet another story I missed, and am the better for having done so.

Looks like some guy thought he could walk into the super-elite here without even having a winch.

Neil's dad seems to bought him a music studio with lots of nice gear but I doubt any artist with very interesting music could afford to record there in the bay area. He doesn't even list his rates and musicians are poorer than ever. All that outboard analog gear doesn't pay for itself and won't be as quick as plugins for modern digital recording. Time is money. Some outboard gear is inimitable but you can get some very cool sounding plugins now for free that sound just as tasty as classic outboard gear. They just weren't around in the 80s so aren't lusted over.

Was scratching my head and finally figured out it out in words: Can anybody else possibly come off more as a stereotypical (SF*) Bay Area douchebag?

*LA douchebags are slightly different from SF douchbags. I grew up in the Bay Area and now live in El Lay, so I very well understand the slightly different of nature of El Lay and BA douchebags. Nevertheless, douchebags are douchebags.

I like getting deep into the meaning of words, especially with my kids. Stuff like what's the difference between a geek, nerd, and dork? And what's the difference between an asshole and a douchebag? The key delineation is that douchbags don't know they are douchebags. They are truly and really utterly clueless why others may find them, well, douchey.
