Bat guano is excellent fertilizer. Any use of it there?

Yeah, we just sweep it off the landing into the garden.

These guys are small insect eaters, who make a lot of product that looks like mouse poop. I haven't checked the nutrient content (start at 2.00 :D ).

I know people think audiophiles are batshit insane, but this is taking it too far.

    I'll see myself out.

I'm catshit insane. And if the boundaries of all-purpose are being challenged, I might as well join in.

I have two cats. And we have a problem with a very tough young tomcat who is coming and making free with our garden. Normally, I respect the Way of Cat, which includes not respecting other people's property. But this one is a young thug, and is injuring my cats.

I think it has a home, but probably not a garden. Home or not, it is well fed: I saw it finish off a large rat, in an empty plot next door, in two or three seconds.

Internet says that citrus and vinegar are things that cats hate but won't actually harm them. I am trying to squirt this one with vinegar, but he is too clever for me and doesn't seem to really care.

I'm trying to be done with the hobby, but I am also incredibly tempted to show up at @ogodei 's house with a shopping cart as well.

I'm looking for a hosted ODMR/ATURN/OTRN service. Any ideas? (if you don't know what any of those are, please ignore.)

    Sure have. It was great!

But the Environmentall Protection Agency made my sign an NDA and promise to "desist from ultrasonic discouragement of other species in future."

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
I am trying to learn to love jazz, this album is very good to me. But I have two separate rips of it.
    Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue (1959) [FLAC] {1993 Gold Remastered CK 52861}
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (1959, 2015, MFSL) The reason I have two is because the Gold edition creates a sort of distortion from the horns in the first track 'So What" in all of my headphones. It happens in a few tracks, strange 'crackly distortion'. BUt it also happens in the second MSFL rip too. This has never happened to me before. It happens in all of my headphones.
    Pietus Maximus into; HD6XX, TYGR300R, K702,MDR-Z7.
Both rips got perfect EAC marks. WTFug? Is it the remastering? Going to look for the original album at my library. But it really sucks to hear even though it is only on the few loud horn moments throughout the album.
P.S. I have ripped a lot of CDs...

If they were pushing their equipment hard to begin with (i.e. exposing mics to substantially high SPLs at frequencies that they happen to be poorly optimised for) then there's only so much that can be done to salvage a recording short of artificially constructing a signal and splicing that in, reconstructive surgery basically.

Personally I love stuff like that because it reminds me that these were real folks using fallible equipment to create music. It may suck for fidelity's sake but conceptually it bridges the gap between musician and listener by a wide margin IMO. All versions of Kind of Blue that I've heard have had similar "issues", not sure if even the original tapes are going to be free of that. Hopefully someone else can chime in here.

Wait a second relistening to my copy of that song now and could you give a timestamp for specific instances of this "crackly distortion" @SofaSamuraiX ? I haven't actually *critically* listened to this album in years cuz I'm more of a pop, rock, and metal guy (why am I on this forum again lmao) but if you're referring to something circa 3:06 right now I'm just thinking it's... spit. Making its way through the mouthpiece.

I've always thought those parts sounded "dirtier" but now I'm going through really intense segments of the track and I'm not really hearing anything like mics or pres being overdriven, just now sort of figuring out it might have been actual well-recorded information there.

    PC USB>Modi MB2>Piety>janky HD600.

So any trumpet part from 00:59 to 1;29 in So What. On my right ear cup almost sounds like my driver is blown, but it is fine when the trumpet kicks in at 1;30 ish?!

Yep, I'm hearing that. Pretty sure it's just spit now TBH. For the record the copy I have is the Legacy Edition from Presto Music so it's not quite the same timestamp I think. Guess this is one of the cons of using a reasonably resolving system, you hear things that aren't entirely pleasant in a recording, haha.

Ok, thanks for the answers. Going to keep an ear out for this stuff, and try to find the original recordings to seen if the issue is less severe for me with that release!

Check also the sax between ~5.00-700. I don't have either of the versions you have, but in the 2007 Sony SACD version vs (a 24/96 rip of) the 2021 UHQR, that segment is notably more dynamic but clipped (and distorted) at the peaks, the vinyl rip sounding (to me) the more natural there.

Run your rips through Audacity or something and have a look at the waveforms in the passages that sound off. Then go to somewhere like Steve Hoffman forums to see the multitude of opinions on the merits of each of the multitude of remasters; then drive yourself crazy hunting for and listening to any subset of those to find which one you prefer. :D

I keep forgetting I can peep waveforms in Audacity for music. My brain has some weird barrier there where Audacity = the weird shit I make, haha. Here's the Legacy Edition:
