EDIT: Possibly surprising absolutely no one I write poems in my free time so can often just shit rhyming couplets out. Used to do it a lot more frequently as a coping mechanism for assorted things but I suppose there's never a bad time to pick up old habits

(You know how odd memories from youth inexplicably end up lodged in a person's memory forever and a week? A primary school lecture on how haiku are traditionally visual by nature and NEED to make use of imagery counts as one of mine; I can't write a haiku without actually forcing it to portray a mental image).

Thank you! He is really personable and has a tiny little meow. We joke that he sounds like a feline Mike Tyson.

I'm sort of jealous that you feel that way. People glaze Pet Sounds endlessly, so I tracked down a decent master of it. I settled back in peace and quiet, prepared really dig in. I was expecting a treat, something that would lift me out of the every day. That was my bias.

I hated it. Hated it so very much. It almost feels unjust when you're trying so hard to like something that much, only for it to make you feel like you've been locked in a room with Baby Shark. I feel like someone stole my new favourite album, almost. Bless me, Father, for I have sinned, etc..

There a absolutely Beachboys songs that I love. But yeah... I was reading one of those potted-history-with-you-tube-links and... Did most of them do much for me? Nope. Switched to my beloved Grateful Dead afterwards, and immediately, from the first guitar doodles on stage, my heart and mind did that blossoming thing. Crosby Stills Nash would have worked too.

Not in any way way denying Brian Wilson's skills or the band's place in history, but those things don't make it music for my soul.

Oh heck, this ain't no haiku!

    edit... okokok I'll try...

    This ain't no haiku!
    Beach Boys? Give me CSN

The funny thing is that I had a thrillingly gadgetty automatic turntable as a kid, and my Dad gave me all sorts of random records (which had an uptick when the garage at which he was a mechanic was running a promo where people could redeem fuel points for a choice of albums). It was a really mixed bag, but two of my favourites were a Who album and a Beach Boys complilation. I played the latter almost to death, so I have some deep-seated good associations - of having agency to play music and enjoy it on my own terms, as a kid.

However, Pet Sounds in its entirety just made me cringe. It seemed saccharine, mawkish, insipid and grating. To say I wasn't expecting that was an understatement. I did make it through a couple of listens through gritted teeth because I'm stubborn like that, but it really never worked out.

    So this is "Pet Sounds",
    Wilson's magnum opus, eh?
    Such disappointment

I generally like to think that my tastes are incredibly broad, to the point of making no real sense, but I guess this happens to even me:
