Just make sure whoever you buy it from has a good replacement policy. The first one I got had a power tube that hummed badly. I wasn’t planning to tube roll right away, so I had to get the amp replaced.

 

I also had problems with two units. I bought from Amazon and my first unit had a really noisy tube. The second unit had a faulty relay pot that would mute the left channel every couple of steps along the knob.

Otherwise I actually think it’s a really great amp for the price. I preferred my HD800S on the TA-66 to any other amp I’ve plugged them into, including all of the OTC stuff.

Well I think we’re seeing that it’s cheap for a reason. I agree with you though, while I didn’t particularly care for the HD 800 S on it at first, it grew on me quickly and it’s now my favorite as well - in fact, it’s what I’m listening to right now. Second place still goes to the xDSD Gryphon.

 

I don’t know if I’d call this a “deal” given it’s still a $8k amp with a mixed reception on SBAF (and a negative reception for new production WE300B’s due to WE’s fuckery), but right now you can get a free pair of WE300B’s (and a pair of whatever 300B’s they bundle with it normally) if you buy a Feliks Envy from Upscale Audio.

Be careful about the warranty on the WE300B’s though, part of WE’s fuckery has been refusing to honor the warranty for third party sellers even when the third party seller says it’s valid.

The more I typed that out the less I think it’s a deal, lol.

@yotacowboy thinking about the black star but need your opinion on the treble vs fathom since you’ve heard both. New bass driver beast but muted highs from @Merrick has me ><.

 

@Cellist88 What I know of your tastes from reading your posts over the years, Darkstar wouldn't be to your liking.

 

I wouldn't say Darkstar is muted, but it isn't quite as spacious as Fathom.

 

Added them to my cart - but I've gotten cold feet. I have enough great stuff at the moment. Holidays helped me remember.

And the faceplate on the energizer is the standard KOSS faceplate design.
