The "Schiit Happened" chapter updates are the main reason I still visit Head-Fi. That, and since Jason and Mike are fairly active over there, I mostly just stalk their comments specifically as a sort of "cliffs notes" guide to finding the useful content in the threads.

I'm still hopeful that more companies will follow suit and start focusing more on value than "prestige pricing one-upman-ship", but it seems like that's the minority strategy in the industry.

The "Schitt Happened" thread accounts for 99% of the time I spend on Head-Fi.

    I agree.

I just discovered it last week. I am up to Chapter 24: Getting Our Schitt Together (7/30/2014).

I keep my eye out for Mike's and Alex's posts and read those as well. Occasionally some other posts strike me as interesting, but not that many.

Beyond "Schiit Happened" and my "Life after Yggdrasil?" threads, and the trade forum, I'm spending less and less time there.

Between the "Let's crusade for objectivity" crowd that is, simultaneously, preaching measurements and DBT while buying multi-thousand dollar gear without so much as an audition, let alone a DBT, the generally clueless muppets for whom the "search" button is an entirely alien concept, the near-complete lack of appreciation for music-over-gear, FOTM-hype-grab-myself-by-the-goolies-and-tug fappery, and other general nonsense, and at least four million nobbers repeatedly recommending shit for me to listen to that I've already, repeatedly, dismissed, yeah ... I go there less and less.

I think I'm just going to let my big thread there languish, and finish it up over here.

Now you know how I felt during my last days on HF with my DAC thread. For the record, I actually changed my password to something random so I couldn't log in again. I only reset it to confirm that Jude implemented soft bans on a few peeps here.

Well it's certainly true that "K.J.U."/"K.J.J." likes to "spy" on this site/old CS. So beware guys what you post here, especially for Members of Trade.

You have far more grace in the face of overwhelming arse-hattery than I ever will.

And, apparently, you have far more patience than I do!

Also, I'm blaming you (and a couple of other splendid buggers here) for my recent, sudden, re-immersion into the distinctly black-but-oh-so-delicious realm of vinyl. So ... if a gorgeous, statuesque and entirely adorable red-head clips you round the ear at the meet in November, and then starts babbling on about Styx and Supertramp ... well, you've just met my intended.

Crazy woman thinks we should be diving the Galapagos instead of buying 12" black PVC ...

Sbaf measurements showed up for a few hours in the hd650 thread before getting zapped. Were not even labeled as coming from sbaf.

Currawong must be a frequent guest user round these parts.

"Not even a challenge." They even include the K1000 and they cannot drive it with that thingy. This is purely misleading marketing B.S. and they know it but they are doing it anyway.

You know what? The bluff is working because the sheeple keep buying their new thingies until HIFIman fucks up beyond F.U.B.A.R. levels. This is why I detest marketing sometimes.

he probably came because somebody got offended over nothing like it's customary nowadays, and redflagged the topic. that's usually how it goes, modos can't exactly read everything, but if something is flagged, then they can't just ignore/tolerate it.
but yeah I would personally have liked it if only the problem link, or picture, or sentence, had been removed instead of what ends up being a huge nothing where nobody learned anything. zonto's post was pretty cool TBH.

That thread had been dead for a bit impressions wise. I thought the topic of modding was quite interesting.

To clarify, Amos initially deleted some back-and-forth between me and another user who couldn't understand the difference between Sonarworks and physical modifications and said that he was going to move the remaining modding posts to a separate thread. I requested Amos also delete my main modding posts and any that quoted them. Despite trying to share some of our community knowledge with HF, after 10 minutes I remembered why and how much I hate the place. I didn't want even unlabeled SBAF measurements and other reliable modding sources to remain on HF given the venomous response in the impressions thread. Lesson (re)learned.

That EQ guy was particularly annoying. It's a shame really. I used to like frequenting the 650 thread there. Used to be a bunch of cool guys but now it seems twice a week a mod has to come in and clean the place up.

That's too bad. I've been asked this before, and I thought I should make this clear: I don't have a problem with us sharing information at HF. SuperBAF isn't a money making venture. We don't have anything to lose. I know that in the past, I've asked that people give credit to where it's due, but really, this is not necessary anymore, especially if the information helps people. So just share away, even without attribution.

In terms of the stuff posted here under the Creative Commons, we did this because we didn't want someone with commercial intent to steal the ideas and patent it for themselves. This of course doesn't prevent anyone from making money on it. In fact, I think it would be cool if someone actually sold SBAF HD800 mod packs to the public. We just didn't want some Porker trying to steal the ideas as their exclusive own.

Currawong, Jude, etc. - they are voracious readers of SuperBAF. I do keep logs for analytics.

650 thread got right back to its usefulness afterwards with Koolpep informing another that pairing a fiio e12 with the 650's will sound great.

Pretty new to HF as well...

A lot of what's going on there seems to be classic internet community stuff ... in a sense the fact that it's about headphones is secondary. With that big of a playground, just about every kind of personality is going to show up.

The size is awful... I just got a GO450 and was looking for info on the thread there, man, you'd need to be a Dark Age Irish monk to have the time and patience to sift through that.

It's easy (and understandable) to cheap shot some of the stuff of the people there who seem more lonely than most.

The censorship is entirely another issue, of course, but it did lead to SBAF in a way - for that I am thankful.
