How i wish verum 2 or verum 3 is a close back. Then i close shop.
Does anyone have thoughts on how these scale? I don't have a higher-end source or amp to compare to.
Decently well, but like the old skool planars it's most similar too it mainly scales in terms of control when you give them MOAR POWAH, in that any detail that they have but you can't quite reproduce is down to the amp not having enough grunt.
Ultimately endgame for all planars is a good speaker amp.
Today I have the most funny conversation ever. One angry customer told on Head-Fi forum that one cup on Verum 1 is completely silent. I was like "whaaaaat? I thought I've fixed all problems, improved QC and don't have any returns\complaints for ~4 month". In private messages he told me that female socket on cup is loose. FORTUNATELY!!! he has sent me this pic:
My question was - what is this short black shit is doing in the socket of Verum 1 and why it is surrounded by white goo?
Answer is: "I used a 2.5mm male TRS to 3.5mm female TRS adapter and sound disappeared in one cup, how can I repair it?"
My suggestion was to use stock cable and remove white goo from headphones. Result was simply a miracle! Everything is working
The second funny case was when the membrane was eaten by thermites. One of it was shipped to Ukraine to me (for examination I guess? )
Imagine having a friend like him, life would never be boring!
So you think it would do justice to a Gungnir Multibit or something over a Modi Multibit with enough power in front of it?
Looks to me like blue goo. Blu tack. Wonderful stuff in the right place. Which this is probably not.
Verum-1 SBAF community loaner in the house!
@ChaChaRealSmooth, can you set up a loaner page for me? @purr1n, not strictly necessary, but if SBAF wants to co-sponsor insurance, let me know.
EDIT: Holy crap, @Garuspik. I didn’t expect it to sound as good as it does! Driven just from my iPhone, It has much more finesse than I expected. Sure, I can start with the nit picks, but I am frankly amazed. Most of the time I’m done within minutes of hearing a new set of cans. I’m throughly enjoying these. Congratulations, man!
Nice! I Love to read such posts
That means that I'm doing smth right.
Wait... termite or thermite? One is slightly more exciting than the other depending on your perspective
Lol. Thanks, now I know correct spelling of those white ants
Follow up on my issue with Verum 1 channel imbalance---it has been resolved with a very good result.
Earlier (Post #1198 in this thread), I remarked about my frustration at how the issue was not handled well. Garuspik contacted me soon after that and sent me a replace driver unit. Now I have a pretty well balanced pair of Verum 1 that I really enjoy to listen. The impedance now measured 6.8 vs 6.5 Ohms, not yet Sennheiser-level of precision in driver match, but I did not expect that either. To my ears, the V1 is tonally and musically more enjoyable than any Senn headphones I've listened to and I owned quite a few of them (I have not got a chance to listen to the Orpheus and hope I will have an opportunity in the next few weeks).
Thanks to Garuspik for taking care of this for a customer. With his engineering expertise and good taste of sound, I remain confident in his future products.
@TomNC - sorry that you've been a beta-tester. I was really in a hurry to deliver Kikstarter orders and made some mistakes in technical design which caused imbalance problem. Reason was bad contact between wires and membrane. Lesson learned and several hundreds units of Verum 1 has no single complaints.
With all experience and support I've received from community I'm pretty sure that next project will be technically flawless and... I hope even more enjoyable sonically
p.s. 6.5 vs 6.8 ohm driver match is about 0.1 db difference.
I got a pair of these 2nd hand and am REALLY impressed. Sound amazing and very comfortable. Love the easy pad swap. I currently have the ZMF Universe perforated sheepskin on them and find it to be the ideal pairing for myself. Hats off to you @Garuspik , this is a home run!
I finally finished reading this entire thread and really appreciate all the long time members sharing their impressions as well as the deeper dive from marv on amp output impedance. I picked up a lot of new knowledge.
This is my first great planar (I found the hifiman 400i & 4XX to have flaws I could not live with) and I have struggled to describe & understand the differences between them and my favorite dynamics. I really enjoy the fostex dynamics (Denon 7200 with perforated Ori pads being my favorite).
I now understand a little bit better what sounds different and how to describe it. I know that I keep reaching for these. I have a new favorite.
