If this is a newer Macbook be wary of the butterfly switches too. Seems there've been two class action suits slapped in Curpertino's face as a result? They felt okay to type on when I played with one for a bit but damn if I'd wanna risk the keyboard crapping out, especially at that price.
I used to have the 15" then downgraded to the 13" and regretted it because the keyboard is way more crappy plus I do a lot of split screens these days so the extra real estate is quite important.
Nah, I agree. I have a 15.6in screen myself and though it's cumbersome to carry around the added real estate makes up for the back pain, haha.
I do wish Apple'd get its act together and sort out their product line. For all the build quality issues and overheating I can still see why people'd go for em, they make for a good user experience.
All the apple laptops, and most ultralight in general, in the last 10 years or so have been thermally limited by design in order to be as thin as they are, so I don't quite understand the whoopla over this particular model.
Yup, they've been shrinking the die process, but for most laptops performance is tied to how much heatsinking they have. There's no Class-D of computing, it all makes heat.
At the same time it's really the keyboard that kills it for me. There is no PC laptop I lust after, but no way I'm giving my cash to Apple. Especially after watching Lois Rossman.
I hate their new line of laptops, if I needed new laptop today I’d be looking at snagging a used 2015 model before the new body style/keyboard etc, that was a great line of laptops and still has excellent battery and performance
@Taverius maybe I have a short term memory, but I wouldnt say that most of them have a severe problem even though it's an unthoughtful trend @SoupRKnowva I thought about that too but the smaller size, weight and most importantly the new superior screen is hard to pass up for my personal needs. The new keyboard sucks but I don't have a huge problem with it either.
@ductrung3993 depends on your definition of overheating. Every single macbook with osx will enter thermal throttling given a non-trivial load. That means they all have inadequate cooling by design. It's a common trend only gaming laptops and ms surface break.
I've had the 15" Macbook Pro for about a year now. It does goes really fast, but I have felt heat through the keyboard whenever I do something particularly computationally intensive. The point of me getting all this extra horse power was so I could use it and I can't even play Starcraft 2 without it getting hot. I'll eventually get one of those cooling mats with extra fans.
Apple knows how to design great looking equipment. Thing is they try to control the end-user way too much. Function keys? We will decide for you! RAM upgrade? Nope, you cannot open your own device. Overheating? Ventilation looks ugly, deal with it...
^Plus, as Louis Rossman pointed out in one of his videos (can't remember which one), Apple never really owns up to their faults, it's always insinuated that the end user is the one misusing their products.
The problem is that it has nothing to do with “knowing better” and everything to do with which set of compromises you want to make. Geeks that think they know better by being apple haters lack empathy for the differing values of others
Apple was miles ahead with its lighter OS and certain implementations to streamline processes. Microsoft only caught up with W8 but then failed so hard at marketing that they lost the initiative again. The old MacBook Pros from about 5 years ago were some of the best laptops around. A light OS is such a delight.
