I think that climate here is similar to where Lyander is. Hot and humid 11.5 months a year. We have at least one machine on almost all the time. This is the latest sin against the planet, right?
But we do not do this ridiculous stuff of cooling rooms to 16C. Just dry the humidity and take the edge of the heat.
I think India may actually be worse for heat, just not as much so for humidity. As for me personally (pretty sure I've said this before— tend to repeat myself a lot), I rarely set my AC to "cool" but it runs on "dry"/dehumidify a LOT, haha.
India is very varied, from the Mimalayias to the Southern plains. But, Northern cities like Delhi get dry heat, and actually more degrees than we do, but Southern cities, especially Chennai, get wet, wet wet... All humidity, rather than rain. When I used to visit from UK, I used to think it was like getting a big wet kiss as you get off the plane!
