Etymotics makes just such a product for musicians. They’re OK. They’re not anywhere close to perfectly neutral but better than most. They require the use of flange style tips.
For years I used stuff like Etymotics, but custom molded is really the way to go. It’s possible to have much more neutral attenuation with the right filters.
@e.schell, how about posting your needs and discussing on the thread that @Jinxy245 mentions.
I have a need too. Something for the over-amplified "acoustic" concerts that I go to. Trouble is everything is made for rock concerts and all I need is a few decibels off. Just something better than cotton wool.
I will, reading through the thread now. Thanks people! All I'm really looking for is just to cut down as much as possible on damaging my hearing (any further) during mostly rock/metal shows for now...
I use it all the time for movies and concerts, generally the -15db filter. IIRC, UE used my previous ear impressions and gets the filters from a third party.
Funny story. In July went to a concert with a few friends. I had my ear plugs and brought an extra set. I asked my friends if they wanted the extra and they declined. First set goes on and one friend asked to use them.
After the concert the unprotected friend said his ears were ringing for hours afterwards.
