@YMO oh dang you know your stuff... yeah so basically this was before that happened, but he got shut down while doing it and suddenly became a strict Muslim... now he is back to listening to music and actually bought a portable speaker (the JBL charge) for the good old days I guess.
Born in US but father is from Israel, so I'm quite aware of everything. Take away political and religion and we are all the same. Also, MBS is what the young generation is going to act like in the Kingdom. They need to kick out the Fast Food joints it else they will be super fat.
Wahhabism is extreme stuff. But the House of Saud needed to placate that bunch. Saudi excess during the 70s was boggling. Your dad sounds cool, @Accrued . Glad the music is back for him. And btw, welcome to SBAF.
@Wilson yeah I've heard the stories... I've seen nothing when compared to the huge shift my parents have been through, but things are getting better now. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm so excited to be a part of this community.
@Biodegraded I wish! It sounds very shady, but my dad used to have this meetup under a certain overpass that's pretty far away from the city so they wouldn't be caught dancing... It's an amazing story!
Ballet is seen as art generally. Breaking/B-Boying is seen as something for kids with too much energy. Explain to your parents that you like dancing to breakbeats and grooves, executing sets that require months of hard training. Those kids walking around in baggy pants and loose shirts, are tight when that beat starts...
I know. Dancing can give you sense of freedom nothing else gives you. The best thing, you can do it all by yourself. Your dad must have a good library of Funk, Hip Hop/Rap and breakbeats. Check that library out...
@Deep Funk he did! as a kid, he always to put rap on. He especially likes 2 pac and used to "teach" me the meanings behind his words. He still likes to listen to him and also listens to old school Will Smith. I remember a Will Smith song he used to always put on about his son or something like that.
