Late nights have fewer distractions and there's probably less construction noise (lol) infringing on listening space. Could also just be related to how you're winding down for the day and in a more receptive mood for music.

Perhaps you are also a night person and can more easily put aside other distractions? Insomnia sometimes results in me listening during the small hours.

Do you need an intervention?

Cleaner power grid at night... better sound.

@purr1n dammit if I eventually install a generator somewhere exclusively for audio gear I'll blame this damned forum :P

@Lyander tell us if your hifi sounds better with a generator running outside your window. Lol.

@murray Sigh, adding the cost of good long cables plus a whole soundproofed room then. Man this stupid hobby is so expensive when you want more than mediocre sound :P

I lie to myself every night that this time I'm going to bed early.

Shutting down my bedside rig and putting away the phones would wake up my wife, so there's a strict "lights off; power down" policy ... sigh
But it does mean I go to sleep earlier.
