@HotRatSalad I know you were kidding, but there are only 2 streaming services that support UPNP, Qobuz and Tidal. I would love to not support Tidal but the blame should be on Qobuz for having such a shitty music catalog. They probably only have about 20% of my Tidal music catalog. We really need Apple Music and Amazon Music to open up their API and let us UPNP with them but it's never going to happen.
I'm actually kind of concerened about what will happen when Tidal finally goes out of business. How will we stream music in hi fi? f'ing Airplay? I hate airplay.
I really wasn't kidding but I was trying to be polite and not be a dick since I know I a lot of people use tidal. I'll just never be someone that streams period but if I did I would never support tidal.
I get you @HotRatSalad and I agree in ideal circumstances. I hate my huge list of artists in Tidal I would love to go back to owning files and being able to organize them but it doesn't really work for me too well right now.
I've got like 600 albums in band camp and they don't allow any way to just download them all, and I can't click on 600 albums to download them all. Part of the blame goes to band camp for having such shity UI. Purchasing on band camp is really an act of faith that someday I'll be able to download it all at once.
I dunno I'm cool with whatever makes anyone happy through music I guess. Anytime I buy anything from Bandcamp I just immediately download it. I've been buying music since the 80s so I'm probably just stubborn. Most of my listening is either playing files or records so I'm weird.
MQA being in the equivalent doesn't mean Tidal is dead at least not yet. Tidal is owned by Jack Dorsey's company Block Inc which owns Square and Cash App so its still got a pretty big back behind them. Though the Cash App side of the business is in a bit a trouble relating to fraud.
MQA itself was bleeding money for years and one of their primary backers pulled out. We were in the age of low interest rates and easy money so it did seem in a way when tide receded we were going to see who was swimming naked. MQA seems to be like this.
@netforce no streaming company makes money. Not even Spotify. That can’t be sustained forever. Eventually we will only have Apple, Amazon and Google who can use streaming services for their other products.
@rhythmdevils In a way streaming services needed to get a reality check that it was too unsustainable to always be burning money at their rates but I do foresee a mass of services consolidating and shuttering now.
