I don't even remotely need this and I want one now.

Though if you bought six of them, I suppose you could set them up on a wall and channel your inner Tony Stark... hm...

The rotating knob thingy looks like it may be a wireless version of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3Dconnexion

    I used a spaceball way back in the late 90's/early 2000's doing 3D modelling/assembly.

My guess is it's the size appeal. 27 inch vs 13/16 inches. Big working surface, and about a... 5K display (weird resolution).

edit: The raw specs behind the surface PC aren't very impressive for the cost, the thing is fairly form over function in my opinion.

It's like the Wacom except it actually works the way you expect is how I heard it described. Still a nice to see Apple get some serious competition in the IMac space.

Ever since the metro interface and the Surface Pro made their entrance Apple was losing ground.

Apple is still losing ground because Microsoft will give programmers and designers more open source options.

As an iMac 5K user (at work) I welcome more competition. In devOps capacity though, I don't have any use for the touchscreen capabilities. Still hard to beat the *NIX environment. This looks to be aimed primarily at the creative types.

    Ars hands-on.

Still, looking forward to playing with one of these at the Microsoft store.

Man this looks freaking amazing. I'd love to have this for editing in my photo business.

Annoyed that they didn't include the newer NVIDIA mobile parts, especially at that resolution but I understand these were probably in development for 2 years and they had to target parts they were sure would be available.

Looks pretty awesome! Out of my price range, but I'm glad to see them pushing the boundaries of hardware.

Yeah, it would have been really interesting if they offered one with a Quadro option, since it seems to be aimed at very high-need users anyways.

How about this uncomfortably thin monstrosity ASUS has pumped out?

The Quadro line is useless for the target demographic. In fact, it's generally started becoming less useful outside of CAD work. You're talking precision vs raw speed at this point.

The laptop reviews look like shit. The HP spectre is the only one I'd consider right now, honestly.

Huh, wasn't aware that Quadro was falling out of favor.

And yeah, I would have bought the HP Spectre, but I picked up a factory refurbished MSI GS60 for an absolute steal. The Asus one is at the point where it's too thin for me to actually even actually buy it, I'd be afraid of the damn thing breaking.

The 7xxx series branding of the intel CPU is interesting though.

Metro interface started with the zune. I still think it is such a beautiful and innovative device, especially the ui.
But that failed hard. But was the start of something great.

Just like the powermac g4 cube. Failed hard, set up future for new mac pro.

    Greater things are coming.

One thing though, when you buy a Surface Pro you should get a type-pad/keyboard accessory included. Always bundle the essentials people see great deals...

I'd advice to just buy the typically bundled SP Keyboard rather than save a few pennies with a cheaper option. Has pretty good key feel and integrates seamlessly. I find my SP4 keyboard to feel even better than the Thinkpad Carbon's. (Although it's not as good as the larger Thinkpads, very little is.)
