M4 is one of the most amazing steels. Not stainless, but so bitey with such a crazy sharp edge

I was initially a bit concerned about corrosion with it not being stainless, but after a few years of use so far it has not been a problem. It does get used every day though, it probably would not be as good a choice for something that sits unattended for long periods of time.

Oh good catch! And the listing is down now so I'm guessing enough people caught on to that.

Sadly with the s90v and flytanium hardware, it gets pricey fast. The seller is asking nearly new pricing and I'm just not ready to bite on that.

I have some experience sharpening my SG2 kitchen knives (more difficult than my AEB-L knife). Any idea if S90v much more difficult than SG2? (that's just an excuse to go out and buy diamond plates right?)

I did recently sign up on the wait list for this though:

I figure if I'm gonna dump money, I can support a Canadian maker. Plus reviews say it has an action on par with the best of the best. The waitlist is well over a year though, so plenty of time to change my mind or find other toys in the meantime.

I have the green aluminum handle Osborne 940 and it's little brother the 945. The full size 940 disappears nicely in the pocket and has a nice balance. Not sure how the G10 scales are with this knife, but I still lust after the carbon handled model. I don't own a lot of BM knives because as mentioned they are pricey for what you get. Zero Tolerance and Kershaw offer better value for US made knives, and perform the same if not better. However I wouldn't hesitate saying the Osborne 940 is one of the best EDC blades IMO.

Sharpening is another wormhole almost as crazy as audio...

That looks interesting, look forward to a review. Much more typical folding knife dimensions. I chose the Mini-Griptilian over the regular Griptilian for it's compactness, but there is a much greater selection out there if that is not a priority.

Hmm well there this in M4, also local to me... but there's a price premium for being "collectible"

I'm not that big a fan of G10 either. Too bad the 943 was discontinued, I actually preferred the look of that one but they never made it in s90v or carbon fiber.

My searches have leaned more heavily into Benchmade simply because it's easier to find them on the secondhand market.

I bought a bunch of Naniwa sharpening stones a few months back for my kitchen knives, but now wonder if I shouldn't have splurged on the shapton glass stones instead...

I don’t know of any Canadian knife makers in the Benchmade price level but Grimsmo is one that makes next level, high quality knives. The Norseman is popular but to me it looks like a horse’s cock. The Rask is freakin cool though. These at high end.

I went through a few before realizing I preferred Spydero Delica: lightweight and grippy fiberglass handle, simple and sturdy lockback, easy thumbhole open action.

I have a few more around like in the garage with tools and emergency kit in the car.

These are all under 3inch blades which is the legal limit for carrying concealed in Nevada. I believe Oregon is 4inches. For open carry Im not sure there is a limit because I see homeless people walk around with giant sheathed bowie knives on their belts.

I've got one of these if you want to have a closer look. I'll charge you one box of sharpening stones for the privilege.;)

I'm partial to my Ka-Bar, but it isn't anywhere near EDC-size.

I also dig Spyderco - their cheaper ones are decent, and I wouldn't cry if I misplaced one. I've got a beefier Made in USA knife from them that's a beast.

My wife got me a Medford Knife & Tool Proxima for our anniversary a couple of years ago. That thing is a heavyweight! Because of the sentimental value, I'd never take it out into the field. It gets used on the weekends when I'm wearing something stouter than khaki shorts, so it is a little better than a "safe queen."

One of my favourite purchases last year was the Victorinox Waiter pocket knife. It is small enough, useful and good value for money.

they’re know for being big, thick knives. Unfortunately Greg Medford is a racist a-hole.

Mine is really heavy, and although I like the craftmanship and build quality, I prefer to carry lighter knives. He is certainly outspoken - like only someone who is their own boss can be.

@Claritas Does the “miss information” mean that it’s misinformation or that I’m missing information? If the latter then Google “Greg Medford racist” and then “Greg Medford racist T-shirt”. After he got called out on the shirt he doubled down on being both racist and a-hole.

if he was just “outspoken” then I wouldn’t have even mentioned it.

Are you referencing the Shiite and "Summi" t-shirt?

Tasteless? Meh... yeah... I suppose so. Certainly not something I'd wear, and I'd probably make a "WTF?" remark if I saw a friend wearing one. Racist? That word gets tossed around way too much as a way to shut down discussion and put others on the defensive. Not sure how a t-shirt that singles out a particular religion is racist, but here we are.

If you are referencing another t-shirt, let me know. I've seen a "Don' Buy Chi-Com Knives" t-shirt, and I did cringe because of the ignorant dumbasses (both "red" and "blue") in this country that lump Asian (Chinese) Americans in with Chinese Nationals. Yeah, we are all alike. Heeeeeh...

And, after owning one of his knives, I can say I wouldn't buy another. Too heavy. Not practical for field use. Love it or hate it looks... Pretty rugged, but my Spyderco is rugged at probably half the weight. Well-made, but the bottom line is I think it isn't a very practical knife.

The most recent example was a shirt depicting chinese people with a blatantly racist caricature, the shirts are just the most visible examples though. He has deleted livestreams in which many people have claimed that he has repeatedly used the n-word and called BLM protesters “torch monkeys.” His podcasts and interviews are filled with hate and he is proud of his hate as he has at times worn a hat saying “hate keeps me warm” or some such nonsense. At least one major retailer stopped doing business with him.

I had a bullet point response, but I deleted it. I also considered a response criticizing the improper use and incessant bandying about of the word "racist," but I deleted it, too.

Politics, race, and religion are topics I will continue to avoid here. I'm embarrassed for getting sucked into discussions of those topics.

I enjoy this place too much to piss in it.
